I'm worried about: College of Wooster Drew Lycoming Albright Keuka Allegheny Knox Wartburg (Change the name! I could never send my child to a school with this name. It's got to affect their enrollment.) And I say this with sadness, because I think small colleges have so much to offer, and we will all be worse off when there are fewer of them.
These colleges should be worried because I’ve never heard of half of them.
You should be worried because you’re an idiot.
Well, I've never heard of Albright, Keuka, Knox, Lycoming, and Wartburg either. And why would I? The reality is that small liberal arts colleges in rural areas and small towns in the Northeast and Midwest with tiny endowments are in serious trouble. All these colleges are going to have to get creative to remain viable. If I were president of one of these schools, I'd lean into useful things for the community - farming, small business management, teaching, animal husbandry, and so on. Ain't no one coming to Keuko or Wartburg to study Shakespeare or get recruited by Wall Street.
