Good luck with that. No tow company is going to touch that car just because you asked them to.

Pffffft, you obviously don’t know any tow companies lolz

What's a car key? Seriously haven't used one in almost 5 years now.

Weird flex, weirdo

^^^ asks “what’s a car key?” ^^^

Then in very next sentence acknowledges he knows what it is, but hasn’t used it recently.

I do think it is a bit odd that so many people don't know their neighbors well enough to just shoot them a text about it.

This should have been handled with a light text on day one, such as:

Hey Jen. Hope your vacation is going well. You probably didn't notice in the rush of leaving, but Hadyn blocked my driveway with his car when he came home from college. If you have a key ar home with a gatage code, I can let myself in and move his car to your driveway. If not, ai will just park my car in your driveway until you get back.

Easy and gets the point across

You should all get to know your neighbors well enough to do something this simple.

Have you overnighted anything recently? Probably cheaper to get it out of a tow lot.

Let the owner pick!

My daughter when she was first driving blocked someone’s driveway and they absolutely called the police to tow it. Rightfully so. Thankfully the police called me first (small town) so we were able to move it but I would have done the same thing.

Key difference- a call to the police may be effective in getting a tow. A call directly to a tow company will not be.

I can make the cut to get in and out, barely, but it’ll be tough or impossible if a car parks on the opposite side of the street. They’ll be gone for 10 days. No one else is home to move the car. They’re on the West Coast by now, so I hate to bother them with this. I also don’t want to have to have them towed, but I don’t want to hit their bumper pulling out of things get tight. Why would they do this! Ugh! What would you do? My kids already park their car on our side of the street.

Have them towed
Whoever parked there should have known better. Also, I doubt it is legal to park ten days in the same spot.

If you have their contact info, you can always contact them (along with photos) & let them know of the situation…
Perhaps they can have someone move the car if they have a family member or friend who has a key to the vehicle.

Otherwise there is not much you can do unfortunately. 🙁
But in case you do accidentally nick their car at least if you have pictures of where the car was when you nicked it, it can show that you are not responsible since the other car WAS blocking your driveway which is illegal.

Park in or across their driveway.

Overnighting a key would not cost much. Less than a tow.

+1.

And if they balked at spending $50 to correct their error that denied you use of your driveway for 10 days, they are shitty, shitty, shitty, people. Like, I'd never speak to them again.

OP here with an update!

Someone came and backed the car into their driveway yesterday while I was at work. I had texted pictures and let them know it was fine but we’d be parking in their driveway because it was hard to navigate around the car in the dark, etc. They seemed fine with it but now all of a sudden the car has moved! Whatever lol So strange!

The neighborhood kids probably hotwired the car and moved it for them.

That is weird they didn’t let you know but at least it’s out of the way now!

Instead of the nuclear option (calling a tow truck), the OP texted the owners and they handled it! Good job OP and you are a good neighbor.
