| Our neighbors left for vacation with some of their family, and one family member parked in the street, and their back bumper is partially blocking our driveway. I can make the cut to get in and out, barely, but it’ll be tough or impossible if a car parks on the opposite side of the street. They’ll be gone for 10 days. No one else is home to move the car. They’re on the West Coast by now, so I hate to bother them with this. I also don’t want to have to have them towed, but I don’t want to hit their bumper pulling out of things get tight. Why would they do this! Ugh! What would you do? My kids already park their car on our side of the street. |
| Park on the street. |
You would hate to bother them with this but they didn’t bother to properly park. What you need to do is call them and tell them what happened. Maybe someone has access to the spare key and move the car. |
| One of these two solutions is your best bet |
| Call them, they can overnight you the key to move it. |
|
Contact them and ask if maybe there’s someone local who can move their car. Send a photo so they can see what you’re talking about. If they can’t get the car moved, then you’ll have to park in the street or else take your chances with parking in your driveway. Do NOT have their car towed.
That was a jerky thing for the family member to do. |
| I would call a tow company and not have a second thought about it. |
|
I would be frustrated BUT you have said no one else is home to move the car.
When they get home, ask that they not do it again. It's silly though to include your worries of what *might* happen: "if a car parks on the opposite side ... " and "I don’t want to hit their bumper pulling out ..." |
| Yes, it’s annoying, but I’d just park on the street until they return. |
| If you don’t want your neighbor to dislike you let it be for 10 days. I’m |
| Call the police. This is illegal. |
| I suppose you could cheerfully text and ask them if they’d mind you parking in their driveway as needed since they partially blocked you. If there’s plenty of parking and you have a pleasant relationship with them I’d just let it go. |
| ^^ That’s a good idea! Let us know their reaction. |
It's not a silly thought. If the only reason OP is able to get to work in the morning is because someone happened to not park in the spot they need to pull into to get out, that's an issue. |
And invoice the neighbor for it. |
