The Board will take final action at their meeting on April 30

MSDE has lost its ever-loving mind!! What is the rationale for ending it by the 18th of June?!?!
Under Hogan it was the 15th a few years. They should also mandate school to start no later then the last Monday in August, also add the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and December 23 as statewide no school days, remove election day as a holiday. Adjust the requirement to 175-177 days to reduce the number of low or no quality days.

What happened to the legislation advancing that idea?

Didnt advance in the Senate I believe.

Raising taxes and reducing the number of school days doesn't mix.

Raising taxes=BOO
Reducing school days=save time and money

yes, it costs less to provide less education. however, they want a tax increase for schools even if they reduce the number of school days required.

No education is taking place Christmas week school is only held to check off days towards the 180.

What about Good Friday and election day?

I’m Catholic and agree that they need to get rid of Good Friday. But elections day is a safety issue — they need to use school as a polling place and can’t have all those random people in the school building when school is in session. No one wants that. This is common lots of places. But would be helpful if the school ends earlier so the primaries aren’t an issue — just the one day in November.

I think Good Friday should remain a day off.

Why? Do you also agree then that Eid, Diwali, Rosh Hashana/Yom Kippur, and Lunar New Year should be days off too?

Is starting a week early really on the table? We have a camp scheduled that DD is really looking forward to. That would royally suck if they push up the start date...

Make it 1Q grading day or a virtual day. No reason for it to be a FULL holiday.

If the last day has to be the June 17,2027 and only 2 snow days are built in what will happen when we have snow days? They won’t be able to add at the end?

Hold school half day on 1Q grading day and 11/9 to build in 3 days instead of 1, Use the 3Q grading day and 4/22 as makeup days prior to adding June 17 and 18.

They need Election Day as a holiday. They use schools for the elections.

They’re presenting at the board now…

The superintendent’s recommendation is to start school earlier. They’re refusing to take holidays. I hate it here. (Listening to the board now)

Transition day 8/19, first day 8/20. Good grief.

I'll concede Good Friday if all of the above go, but I don't see signs of that happening.
