Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
| Are the rumors true that 4 more school days are being added to the calendar? It looks like an item that the BOE will discuss tomorrow. |
| I guess we will find out tomorrow. Someone is posting on the MCPS educators facebook page that they are proposing that we all go back August 12 as one of the options. |
That’s insane. |
| They already are going back the earliest day ever August 17 which is less than 2 months after the last day this year. That is awful enough. They should be going back August 24 but Maryland law has not adjusted for more religious holidays, which means a week of summer is lost. Maryland law needs to be made flexible like in Virginia, Georgia, Florida. |
| Why August 12? I thought they only need to add 3 instructional days to get to 184? |
| Why can't the first week be a virtual one with meeting teacher and classmates virtually to get to know each other etc... and then ease into classroom the following week? |
| What, that's insane and incredibly disruptive especially since everyone has to sign up for camps etc. in January. The calendar online still says 8/24. |
They mean staff would come back August 12th for pre service. |
Maryland needs to get rid of the requirement to be closed completely on 11/3. Either allow a virtual day or make that the 1Q grading day. Diwali is on Sunday 11/8 not 11/9. How about they make the 1Q grading day a half day since it is in the fall and move the off day on 11/9 to 4/23 with 4/22&23 being built in makeup days. If either or both are needed school can have a delayed opening so those who held Passover Seders the previous night can sleep later. |
Why? |
They can't change it now-it's way too late. Too many plans have been made for parents, staff, etc. |
Totally predictable predicament |
| We have cancelable beach plans that week but I will really resent missing that. |
| No chance they start a week early. Again, people forget about the teacher's union. They can't just change dates without consulting the union |
| Guess a ton of teachers will be calling out for pre-service. How much dumber can this district get? |
