Well rounded colleges attract golfers. Doubt one got get a tee time for a foursome from Oberlin, Columbia, or Wesleyan.

Piggybacking on this. My college son has never played golf but would like to. Where in the DMV can he take lessons over the summer. We are not golfers so don't belong to a club. Looking for something economical.

But clubs aren't small and he says he'd "feel like a douche" if he's the only one showing up with golf clubs. But it's kind of his only outdoorsy thing he does. He doesn't run, etc

My kid goes to a cold school accross the pond (St Andrews) and plays golf 30 times a year (SEP/Nov) then (Feb-May). Thye have a great deal for students w St Andrews links to play all 7 courses for peanuts….he takes full advantage of that.

IMO my kid wasted time in college and law school playing too much golf. Southern school. His grades would’ve been better without it. Maybe his initial employment opportunities, too. Whatever. He seems to be doing fine now and perhaps he’s got a lifetime sport he enjoys.

A round of golf for you and a friend with a stranger aka Chilton Prep parent '02 is worth 5K? Okay!

Those of us in upper management at my company play in at least two charity golf tournaments a month from April to October. When our college athlete son is home for the summer he gets the call to join us because his handicap is 3.4. We win frequently when he joins us. Better still he gets a lot of exposure to my colleagues, and they love him. He’s already secured a job with us, and he’s expected to advance quickly.

My neighbor's kid was there and played golf with friends/frat. He parked his car off campus freshman year. Disc golf is also popular.

Sorry you don't know how to play, PP.

Both of my kids took their clubs with them to school, as did many of their friends. Some weeks there is no time to play and others weeks, they can fit in 2-3 rounds.

I don’t understand the misogyny comment- golf is a healthy way to spend some free time and bond with friends and classmates.

The Montgomery county public courses have group classes that are pretty affordable. Go to mcgacademy.com.

As far as my son goes, he does have his clubs at college. He hasn't played that much because he's at a city school, doesn't have a car, and none of his friends play.

My son and I have both taken lesson at the Montgomery County public courses - there are a bunch of them, and then each have people who teach at that course. We liked the teachers and learned a ton.

My son did the 1 credit golf class every semester. He met friends that liked to golf.

He was in the south so greens fees were cheap.

Greens fees aren’t any cheaper in the south vs anywhere else for municipal courses…actually found them a bit higher than mid Atlantic and northeast.
