Is anyone thinking DC may be too unsafe to stay in?

Of course, if DC is nuked, moving to the burbs will be of no help. But if the White House, Pentagon, and Congress were targeted - and maybe personal residences of Congress people - I would think being 10 miles away would be safer.

And yes, I do wonder if I need therapy. Living here and reading the news daily has become existential distress. But I still wanted to ask the question to understand how others think of the risk.

No, there hasn’t been a big international terrorist incident in the US since 9/11, but the US wasn’t provoking before the way that the crazy and cruel DJT administration is now. He is poking so many bears and inviting terrorism.

The people who planned 9/11 thought we were doing plenty of provocation before that! Plus, after 9/11, the U.S. invaded a completely unrelated country, tortured people without judicial review, set off massive instability in Iraq and Afghanistan, allowed ISIS to spread across Iraq and Syria, conducted random drone strikes all around the Middle East and did plenty of other things that also definitely counted as poking bears. That's not to say Trump is a force for stability and calm, but I don't think the risk is exponentially worse now than it was before.

Frankly DC proper is probably better guarded than heartland burbs.

Pam Bondi and other top Trump officials have been moved to military bases around the area because of threats. Ppl threw bombs the other day in NYC. OP doesn't sound crazy.

The threats to Pam Bondi has nothing to do with Iran.

LOL the people threatening Bondi are crazy MAGA cultists who turned on her because she fell out of favor with their orange god. It's the exact same thing that happened to MTG.

Par for the course when your base is the dumbest, most violent, misogynistic, and easily manipulated dregs of the country but certainly no reason to feel unsafe as a regular DC resident.

If the Potomac sewage spill gets worse in that it makes air unsafe or pollutes water, dc will be uninhabitable. That’s kind of a big deal. And very realistic.

I grew up in DC and figured we would be in the crater if a nuke hit. Same for any potential terrorist activity, though with Trump dismantling the FBI and much of our security apparatus, who knows. It isn't something I am going to lose sleep over.

I moved from another major violent, high crime city to the DMV over 30 years ago. I used to think nukes were the biggest threat to DC and the surrounding area. IMHO the bigger threats are lone wolf actors and random sleeper cells doing random attacks for the cause of our enemies.

Which, like a nuclear attack, has not happened here.

You live an alternate universe.

That's not the right thinking. LA and NYC are the targets. Even east texas oil fields would be bigger targets. DC is just nothing but paper

Aren't he oil fields in West Texas?

Exactly this. The pentagon was in the burbs and 9/11 still happened.

Eh, I'd rather stay here and get nuked, but I'm Gen X and would rather be evaporated than have to live in a nuclear fallout ridden country governed by the current administration.

I would be more worried if I lived in Florida.

Yes, OP, have had the same thoughts and looked pretty seriously into moving to New England. We’re here for now, but as someone who lived here for 9/11, we’re an obvious target.
