Is anyone thinking DC may be too unsafe to stay in?

Anonymous
After Venezuela, the abandonment of so many former allies and now Iran, I am now seriously considering moving my family out of DC and into one of the burbs given the increased risk of a retaliatory attack on the White House and the Pentagon.

I have to imagine our children would be safer from counter and domestic terrorism living 10 miles from the White House instead of two.

I wish I were joking in writing this post.

Grateful to know how other parents with DC-area roles and/or family nearby that you want to stay neat are evaluating this.

If DC becomes unsafe because of a foreign military action, the burbs won’t be much safer.

Go for it, some nice houses for sale right around Langley.

No, this is ridiculous. Your risks of getting into a car accident in the burbs is far higher than any increased risk of terrorism in DC.

Or - before the suburbanites jump on me - the risk of being a victim of a random street crime in DC is already far higher than the risk of terrorism.

Get therapy if need be OP, but you don't have to move.

I grew up in DC hearing my Dad say often, if DC is hit, we won't even know what hit us. I stand by this. I'd rather be dead without even knowing it was coming than live in Gaithersburg or Fairfax and have to live though the aftermath.

If DC is unsafe, our country and region have much bigger problems.

I grew up in DC and figured we would be in the crater if a nuke hit. Same for any potential terrorist activity, though with Trump dismantling the FBI and much of our security apparatus, who knows. It isn't something I am going to lose sleep over.

LOL yes by all means move closer to Langley, Quantico or Andrews. Move closer to the Naval Academy, or the NSA. Get closer to NASA Greenbelt or all the Army presences near Fort Belvoir.

Good thinking, OP. Very logical.

This hasn’t crossed my mind as something to worry about and won’t. Also, my office is a block from the White House, and I don’t worry about that, either. You’ll be fine.

What are you taking for your anxiety?

I don’t think it would be logical, OP.

Iran doesn't have a nuke. The other threats are biological or chemical weapons which would be mostly driven by wind.

Air Base in Hampton? Or do you just watch too much TV and think the CIA is in a place called Langley (or that they call it that) rather than in McLean?

Why do you think there is Langley HS nearby? Swing and miss. Nice try.

No. DC is the safest place in America right now.
