This is not true at Arlington. RL players have been invited to train with ECNL teams across the board. They did scrimmage etc. if they tell your RL player not to come it’s because they have seen enough. |

Amusing how folks dismiss that their kid isn't getting selected because of the quality of their play and they need to put in good work to improve
Many blame the club for not promoting or selecting the player who isn't doing what it takes |
This is not true at Arlington for my DCs RL team. They did not scrimmage. |
| If my DC attends an ID camp and then maybe 2 practices with a new club, what should we expect from the coach at that point? If tryouts are still weeks away, will they make a commitment to a kid who is good enough to make the team, but wouldn't be a top 5 player on the team? |
Some scrimmaged some did not. Either way if they were promoting your RL child you would already know. |
| I saw Richmond United on the boys side isn’t having current ECNL players attend ID sessions. They’ve also cancelled most of the training and game sessions combining next year’s U13 and U14 player pools. Feels pretty desperate and not in the interest of fielding the best teams. I predict significant defections, esp if Virginia Velocity gets its wish of an MLS Next nod. |
What's the desperation part? |
Are you sure the cancellations are the results of weather? |
Odd take. They are pretty much the only option for high level soccer in that area and have their pick of the litter in every age group. |
We just did something similar. We received coach feedback on the phone 24-28 hours after the id session. We got an unofficial yes offer, but we'd have to wait until the club was ready to send out the hard offers. Also, we received an invitation to come out to practices. So, we are in limbo, but feeling good until the hard offer comes in...which should be around tryout time. |

Bethesda is hosting sessions over the next couple of weeks.

Apparently in the DMV, the 2nd team coaches are the most powerful people in the soccer world
So many clear and obvious 1st Team talent performers can't get on the 1st team because the all powerful 2nd team coaches won't let them go |
As an Arlington parent with both boys and girls on RL, I can tell you I've personally watched multiple age groups scrimmaging exactly as described in both the late fall and the few winter practices, mostly an older RL team against younger ECNL team, but occasionally same age. I've also seen kids on teams lower than my kids at their practices and scrimmages and kids from their RL teams at the ECNL practices. I might not like all the choices made, but there's not a lack of coaches seeing the kids and giving them opportunities in actual practices and scrimmages. |
| At our club the big cattle call tryouts are to find a few kids to send onto actually playing with the team to see if its a match. Generally its an open pool and you could get invited to the top tier or second tier practice depending. |
