this. GMU engineering is held in high regard

Ugh, that can't be comparable to a big, real university like VT. GMU is just basically like an expensive NVCC. No fun vibes.

If you’re paying big bucks for a “fun vibe”, you’re doing it wrong. In the meantime, we Virginia residents will continue to take advantage of the great value that is GMU.

Finding an affordable OOS flagship is well worth it. Football is more important than you seem to realize.

Not to everyone.

Bullshit

Community college is also a great value, but for most people its not the college experience they want for their dc. GMU is basically community college.

Correct. Comparing GMU to VT is embarrassing from a social standpoint.

It’s okay if you don’t understand sports. Really, it’s fine.

My kid is a NMSF, 1570, 20+ AP/DE with math through linear algebra and differential equations, female math major. We consider VT to be quirky in their admissions so not a safety.

Alternatives are other state flagships.

Yep - our scatterplot was all over the place for VT. We know a NMSF that was denied at VT and our DS with > 75% percentile SAT for VT eng was also denied. Both are at OOS.

For engineering, Penn State or WVU

True 25 years ago. Not true in recent years.

GMU is now primarily residential - and most living "off campus" live in apartments directly adjacent to campus (same as off-campus living with VT in Blacksburg).

And as a STEM hiring manager, I see that GMU STEM grads are just as capable on the job as those from VT (or as those from most other STEM programs).

I disagree - and no affiliation with either GMU or VT.

Oh really? How did Mason’s football team do this year?

I don't care about college sports and I never did. It is very student-dependent whether college sports matters.

I never went to a single football game in college. For some students, football just does not matter at all.

That’s sad. I feel bad for you but I guess it’s impossible to appreciate things you never experienced.

Didn’t know Mason had boosters but I guess they don’t like sports and they are here to say Mason is just as fun as VT. Fairfax is the new best college town!!

Well it had to be better than VTs, that’s not something to hang your hat on this year.

At least kids at VT had tailgates and games to attend this fall. What do kids do on Saturdays if there is no football? Go to quidditch club or just sit around? Seriously
