Do you feel safe in DC anymore, with Trump in office?

I got my high school DS a passport card to carry in his wallet in case he is ever stopped by ICE. This situation is outrageous—SCOTUS has really screwed up in allowing agents to target brown people. But I’m not so afraid for DS’s or my safety that I would move or leave the country.

Yes, safer.

I think white liberals are genuinely fearful of everything related to Trump, for the same reason MAGA folks have decided that liberals are pedophiles trying to make their kids gay and smuggling Latinos into the country to help overthrow the government, or whatever exactly they’re afraid of. We’ve become such a divided nation—with people only reading news or “news” that reinforces our fears and only interacting with people on the same side of the political spectrum. It makes it really easy to develop irrational fears and to overly demonize people who are different from us.

Spot on!

Are you watching the news? Seeing the clips of ICE raids and arrests in Minneapolis?

These are not rational fears. ICE is grabbing kids getting out of cars in school parking lots, grabbing Home Depot workers at work, firing tear gas and hurting brave people observing raids to document and stop them.

ICE is America’s gestapo. This feels like Anne Frank. It’s horrible. I’m white and so are my spouse and kids, and I wonder when I’ll know it’s to leave the US every day.
