Removing eye makeup at 50

In the last year, I’ve had a few occasions when my eyes get very irritated (puffy and peeling dry skin the next day). I think maybe now that I am 50, I need to use a much gentler method. I have tried just washing it off using Cetaphil but it doesn’t seem to work. Any ideas? Thanks!

I just use a few drops of a lightweight, fragrance-free oil. I massage gently over my entire face and then use wipes or cotton pads to gently remove the oil and mascara. If I've overdone the oil I go over my face with a wipe before using my facial cleanser.

I bet the irritation is from the eye makeup and not the remover.

But, one thing I do if I have a ton of eye makeup on is I rub it with oil first. Argan oil or whatever plain oil. Then I wash that off.

Came to say this! I use argan and/or castor oil, or an argan based natural cream.

I am also allergic to some mascara (notably Chanel is the absolute worst). I use Merit now and have no issues. I’m 47.
