Is Christmas turkey not a thing anymore more?

Who seasoned the turkey?

I feel certain turkeys are around. I’d try a store like Giant. They always seem to have them. We made the switch to ham at Christmas a few years ago, after generations of being a “Thanksgiving replay” family for Christmas dinner.

I never knew people DID have turkey dinner all over for Thanksgiving until I met my in-laws. That’s what they expect every other year, when we host them for Christmas. I’m willing to do it, but I 100% prefer the years when my parents visit for Christmas and I can make anything festive that sounds good. Sometimes I don’t decide until a few days before.

Well, scooby snacks.

Where do you source those? Serious question

Do you make them yourselves? That's a whole lot of preparation and cooking for those three dishes alone

How many people do you entertain? Does everyone get their own lobster who wants their own lobster?

I've never seen a Christmas goose for sale.

Do you mail order?

I'm super curious

It's a certain meat you associate with the holidays and with the dressing etc.

You can get over it very easily by the new year and not care about tasting it again in roasted bird form until the next holiday season.

But sliced deli turkey is very good protein for sandwiches all year long.

They are not the same thing, though, anymore than a hamburger is the same thing as a steak

Turkey has never been a Christmas tradition in our family.

I think most people who celebrate Christmas have meal traditions that are more about where the family came from: British, Italians, Poles, Hungarians, etc., all have different food traditions surrounding Christmas meals. We usually have a variety of traditional ethnic foods based on which part of the famliy is coming to dinner. Feast of the Seven Fishes for the Italians in Christmas Eve, beigli and roast with fish stew for the Hungarian side, ham was the tradition for th e Irish side of the family, and we had goose when celbrating with British friends, etc.

We are not doing turkey but some traditional sides. Doing variety of other proteins to cater to our different tastes.
