You don’t have to take our word for it. The data from our large public HS shows not one denial above a certain gpa/sat in the past 5 years. Not one. And I know for a fact that they didn’t all take world language senior year.

We're already had someone in this very thread post about exceptions. Every time a selective school posts decisions, we get people who can't believe their 4.x student with all the best of everything was denied. Then comes the yield protection coping.

I can see every applicant from my HS. You can too.

What's the GPA and SAT for admission?

GPA was 4.4 at our school. I don’t recall the exact SAT because our DC was well above it at 1510. So, less than that. Applied ED. We will know soon enough.

This. At my DC’s private school the line is 4.4 GPA and 1500 SAT/34 ACT. Everyone is green above these stats. There are a few of other acceptances with stats in the 4.35 range and all went ED.

Agree but there are also a lot of acceptances with upper 1400 SATs. Maybe not a lock, but still a very good chance.

Of course. The middle 50% of enrolled students is 1410-1540, and that is with only around half of applicants submitting scores. You can assume nearly everyone applying TO was below the median of around 1480, so at least 50% of students enrolling were below 1480, and with the high percentage of TO students that means way more than 50% of admitted students were below 1480.

So if public school applicant has a 4.0 uw, 4.5 gpa with 12 AP's, 1500 SAT you will get a green check?

As many many people have reported, it depends on the school. Not a sure thing at our school, could be at others.

At our middling public HS that would be an admit.

https://www.compassprep.com/national-merit-semifinalists-by-state/

shows that in VA, there is 489 NMSF and 1912 commended students for class of 2026. we can assume 2500 in-state students have SAT scores >= 1500

UVA accepted about 4000 students from instate (https://uvaapplication.blogspot.com/2025/03/)

maybe its safe to say ... if you have 3.9~4.0 UW and 1500+ SAT, pretty much guaranteed acceptance from UVA.

Only above a cut eg 4.4 at our school will they use other factors

4.4 out of 4?

How is that even possible?

It really depends on the school and the grading scale. FCPS gives a .5 GPA boost for AP classes, no boost for honors. I think MCPS gives a 1.0 boost for honors or AP. I think some of the privates do .5 for honors and 1.0 for AP.

LCPS does .5 for honors and 1.0 for AP/DE.

FCPS gives a .5 boost for honors and 1 for AP/IB

Probably safe assumption, but Commended is really just an equivalent senior year SAT of 1400-1420. Obviously a huge difference between a 1400 and 1500. But with superscoring, you might see around 4,000, most likely a bit less.

I would say your chances are good, but it is not close to guaranteed.

This is a misnomer just because your instate and above 3.9 and say above 1550 your guaranteed. Didn’t happen to us on our older child. Ended up at an ivy instead and got into a lot of top 10 schools. . So I think it’s just pure luck.
