Seems that the data backs up the observation. 42 cents is more than 29 cents, last I checked. Higher taxes account for higher fuel prices. Taxes vary, and correspondingly so do fuel prices.

State fuel taxes
Colorado's gasoline tax rate is significantly lower than Virginia's, which directly impacts the price at the pump.
Virginia: As of 2024, Virginia's state gas tax is 29.8 cents per gallon.
Colorado: As of 2024, Colorado's state gas tax is 22 cents per gallon

7.8 cents per gallon is not 50 per gallon.
