UMD and other applications that need extra time for processing?

We applied and everything was submitted ontime in ApplyWeb - however it didnt make it through to the terps portal. The teachers recommendations made it before the counslers and the Transcript still hasnt shown up even though the counselor sent it Oct 6th . I am not sure how anyone gets their stuff done on time. The teachers take forever to respond. One teacher took 30 days to get the recommondation done

Yes - Saturday is the deadline

What??? 11/1 is the deadline. How is this coming Sunday 10/19 late? What am I missing?

OP et al are trying to scare you. You are allowed to submit until the deadline of Nov 1st, like always. You can figure out for yourself whether you have everything, it's not that hard. It's just that UMD has so many applications these days, and apparently hasn't upgraded their admissions resources, that they cannot guarantee your application will show up as submitted immediately. It might take 10 business days. That's fine. You, on your end, can take a screenshot when you submit. Everything that gets sent before the deadline will be considered Early Action.

Any application that is deemed incomplete (meaning if all official SAT Score Reports or other materials not received) the application gets moved to their RD pile.

Submitted UMD 10/16.
Showing "Complete" as of 10/27.

It took a while, people.

We submitted on the 11th, still showing as missing LoR and college transcript for DE. When we emailed on Friday (at 10 business days) the AO said they found the LoR but it is still showing as missing in the portal. They also said they would look into the college transcript, which parchment shows as both delivered and downloaded.

I assume if the portal still shows as incomplete at the end of this week we will reach out again. It seems like they are getting applications at rates that outpace their system capacity, especially if you have anything outside the ordinary process that needs to be added to your application.

We saw on Common Apps that the counselor had uploaded the transcript and counselor recs yesterday. We can see it was downloaded from CA.

Still showing up as incomplete in UMD portal. Should we worry? Everything else seems to be in.

Two years ago my daughter spent most of 10/31 on the phone. UMD portal showed transcript not submitted but school showed transcript submitted. She called and they said oh on our end the transcript shows as okay but the college board shows as not submitted. On college board page, showed as submitted. People finally said it must be a glitch in the portal. It was all maddening. Really feel like if the kids have their stuff in by 11/1, that should be sufficient — kids can’t be expected to control their school, the college board, and the random vagaries of diffetrent portals not communicating.

Is UMD the only school which you should actually submit 2 weeks before Nov 1?

What recourse do we have if everything has been sent weeks ago, but the counselor only sent in his part a few days ago so the portal still says Incomplete?

As long as it was sent, it should work out.

DD submitted 13 EA applications, UMD was the only one that seemed like it needed lots of extra time.

Just to allay concerns, DS submitted his UMd app 11:40 pm day it was due last year (his school counselor had not given advice to submit 2 weeks early).
He was admitted to LEP and honors.
Take a breath.

UMD IT department needs a complete overhaul, it’s unacceptable that it takes 10-15 business days, they must be on old technology systems. Our experience applying this year left a bad taste, DS applied via Common App 10/20 as suggested and we have had to babysit this thing by phone up until 10/31, and continuing via emails on Saturday 11/1. There are hundreds of schools across the country who successfully process applications within 2-3 business days. Very surprising for a top STEM school.

Last year one of my kids teachers did not submit a recommendation to UMD literally until half an hour before midnight the day of the deadline. It was fine.

Sheesh. All those naysayers on the other thread.
