Where are all the adult Ethan’s? Names that you know exist on adults but you just haven’t met one in a long time

Come to think of it I haven’t meant a Jason in years.

Those were all awful beta type names. Gary maybe not so much, but still.

OMG all the hot guys were named Jeremy IME.

Naw, Jeremy is a known incel name. Even songs were written about it back in the early 90s like Pearl Jam's "Jeremy"

Nah, Stacy’s mom was the cool one

She had it going on. Dunno about now though. Probably more like "Stacy's now a mom, and her daughter has it going on!"

I can see that. Sometimes I meet people with names that just make me wonder .... what are your parents like and what were their lives like at the time you were born? Usually this happens with people whose first names don't really fit with their last names (e.g., Magdalena O'Brien) or whose names are really out of sync with their generation (e.g., a Gen X Stanley or Harriet). When the back story comes out, it can be really interesting.

Multi-cultural? My parents are from two different countries: my first name comes from one country, my last name from the other. I married a man from a third country. Our children have first names and hyphenated last names from three different countries. We wanted it that way. Our origins are important to us.

Since Stacy was Gen X Stacy’s mom was probably named Nancy or Barbara or Susan.

+1 think Soledad O’Brien.

My high school BF had a very Jewish first name and a very Irish last name which my WASP dad found hilarious.

George, Douglas, Terry, Jerry, Frank, Keith, Allan, Walter...

Barbara, Nancy, Cynthia, Janet, Judy, Beverly

All of those names should die, along with Irene, Carol, Elaine and Linda.

I love the name Scott. I'd name a boy Scott or give a girl the middle name Scott.

Some posters missing the point. We’re not talking about names that have disappeared, because of the ebbs and flows of baby name rankings.

We’re talking about when a baby name was super popular at a point in history, and there should be zillions of adults now named that name, but we don’t meet adults with that name. Like, I was named the third most popular name of 1975 and growing up there was always at least one other girl in my class with my name. But have not met another one since probably high school. I should be meeting my name twin every week.

I know two Ethan’s in their early 50s but where are all the Ryans and Joshs from high school? All the 50 something dads are named Brian, Mike and Dave. The moms are mostly Jessica, Jennifer and Laura. Dawns and Cindys are mia

I know 2 or 3 Stacy moms at my kids’ school.

I know a 52yo Stacy. And I’m married to a 48yo Ethan! I feel like there were a lot of boys named Chris or Christopher at my HS in the early 1990s and I don’t know any adults named that at work, neighborhood, kids’ friends’ dads, etc. Where are they? I also feel that I should know more Andys!

You just named my 20 something Filipina coworkers! Literally all 4 of those names.
