If you don't like private colleges (by the way, a lot of them are producing the research that saves your life and enables better technology), then don't send your kid there. Go to one of the zillion other great options. So much time spent whining and crying. Waaaaaaaah. |
tiered pricing maximizes profits....that isn't a "liberal" thing. |
Nobody would want to go to a college with only full pay kids.
But actually, MAGA would! This is a business opportunity. |
Private schools can do what they want. We should have enough free spaces in state schools for everyone who wants to attend (including the rich people) who are residents of that state. We just don't invest in education the same way as it would be dubbed socialism. But an educated populace would move us into a better place as a country and we could limit more educated immigration as we wouldn't need the drs and teachers from the Philippines etc as our own US students would not be saddled with school debt and could go into lower paid professions. |
I work for an agency that gave out contracts to private colleges (public ones too). These were STEM research grants that anyone could apply for. The federal government then used this research. It wasn't like Harvard itself got the money. The money went towards graduate students and professors working in labs associated with Harvard. The money didn't go towards tuition. I think you're misunderstanding what and how private colleges got taxpayer funds. |
False. Even for private high schools, there is a gap between what the tuition is and the cost to pay for the seat at the school. The donations are there to fill the gap |
Of course they would. It would be a self segregating for the rich thing. Like country clubs, fancy boarding schools. They wouldn't have to mix with the hoi polloi anymore. |
Jesus Fing Christ |
He didn't take away their funding, he broke contracts on research grants mid-execution. |
Sounds like you don't have any logic. Private college supporters used to claim they could do whatever they wanted since they don't receive taxpayer money. Turns out, that's a huge false. When federal funding was taken away, those schools immediately became crybabies. If a dime of tax payers money didn't go to them, I wouldn't care whatever they do. |
They are utilizing your taxes in the form of cancer and other research. It isn't just an open piggy bank. |
There's no misunderstanding. These private schools are not entitled to utilize the taxpayers money. They get huge benefit form the taxpayers money. Government that is run by the taxpayers money can stop the funding anytime. |
There are hundreds of D1 D2 research colleges, it doesn't need to go to certain schools that treat citizens unfairly. |
1) Because it is in our national interest to attract and grow the best talent. This is why so many countries have free or highly subsidized universities.
2) Because it is in our national interest to bring together the best and the brightest. Genius does not develop in isolation. You need interdisciplinary communities to innovate. 3) Because colleges and universities are not-for-profit. They are driven by goals other than maximizing stockholder value. |
You can sue if contract is broken. In fact, lawsuit is going on. More importantly, government can simply not have any more new contract. |
