I agree clubs should not be trying to play up U12 teams for all the reasons above, but also...
-It's what greedy clubs do to put more paying customers on a U12 roster. -Safety reasons. None of the U12 players really run to the bigger size 5 ball and attempt to head it, where the U13 players do that readily. Also, for safety reasons, U12 players should learn to head with a size 4 ball -not the heaver size 5 ball. I have seen a few nasty headshots to young players with a size 5 ball, and is causing injuries like concussions. If you're on a club BOD and your club is playing U12 kids up in U13, you may be opening the club up against a liability issue as it is officially not recommended to have U12 kids heading a size 5 ball. |
I second this as well. That is also the reason why MLSN has U13 playing sz4 balls. also smaller balls develop better foot skills. |
The ECNL league in NA and MA makes kids play 11 v 11. There's no greed or if you think so, talk to ECNL. |

GA is not that far from RL. It is RL in GA mask |
There are a few good RL teams and there are some good RL players but GA is significantly better as a league. |
The reason RL players go to GA is because GA gives better exposure at the national events. |
Significantly? Do we actually have results of ARL RL, PWSA, VSA, LMVSC, Valor, or VYSC vs GA clubs to be able to make this determination? Let’s slow your roll until you can support those claims. Might be time for a GA v RL showcase. Otherwise, this is all just nonsense speculation. I bet the RL teams will step up to join this competition- will the GA? Doubt it. Then they can’t make these wild claims. |
Unless you are in a top GA team. Otherwise there is no exposure. |
Not true. Every high school age GA team, not just the top teams, goes to the same national showcase events. RL events are not the same. |
The RL season is already over. If your kid has any thoughts about playing after HS, I’d get them out to a GA practice (unless your ECNL team is pulling them up), instead of trying to convince others - but mainly yourself - that NVA, SYC, etc are ‘skirrred’ of Valor and Vienna. |
For the 2011 age group if you average the rankings for GA (MA South) and VA RL this is what you get. GA = 399 RL = 1163 Highest Ranked Team GA - CISC = 75 RL - Arl = 148 Lowest Ranked Team GA - TSJ = 1010 RL - Herndon = 2886 Feel free to pick an age group and do the same. |
GA is not a better league than RL because the teams are ranked higher. It’s better because it offers better exposure for college recruiting. If you aren’t interested in playing college soccer there really is no reason to be on a GA team. But if you do want to play in college GA is going to be better than RL for that goal. Also more expensive. |
What do RL teams do in the winter and spring to train? |
