Yes, that's exactly right. And you have to pay extra for Edge. |
And btw, it's mandatory payment whether you attend or not, or like it not. It's a glorified grift to justify the cost of having the facility. It's cheaper to have a zoom call to have players login and go over the film. They can (and should) stretch and condition as part of their regular practice. I'm already waay to many costs/fees and they slipped this one in very sneakily. I would opt of of it - if I could, but alas I cannot. Nice move, SYC... |
| Sure you can, SYC isn’t the only club in town. Vote with your feet. |
Don’t pay. What are they going to do? |
|
We did vote, we came to SYC from another club who isn't competitive. Also, our team was not required to participate in the EDGE training, but they decided to do it anyway and added a 4th training day.
It is a a great extra opportunity to work on technical skills. My other club did not offer that or anything extra at all. |
| It seems like SYC is upping their game. I thought EDGE was just conditioning but it is an indoor practice with goals, film review and strength and conditioning. I don’t know where you can get that for 20$. We love EDGE and thankful for the coaches for raising the bar. |
Nice and subtle here, SYC |

I haves player at SYC. I don’t understand. What does this mean? |
|
Why is everyone complaining? Are they really expecting free services? Other clubs just roll this into their yearly fee, yet here people are acting like it’s a scandal because it’s listed separately.
Honestly, it’s not a big deal. Injury prevention is essential, film review sessions are extremely valuable, and this is far more productive than having players do rondos four times per week. Complaining about this just doesn’t make sense!! |
| Right, many weeks will still be 3x practices + Edge. All is well. |
It wasn’t just listed separately, it was added after an initial price was agreed to and paid. |
Exactly. And to the “it’s not a big deal” poster, I will remind you that some families have more than one child; so one person’s “not a big deal” may be another’s big deal. Zoom works; play small side on the field. #nicetry |
These posts are happening right after each other. Nice job Syc staff. |
These posts are clearly from SYC. They are missing the point as to why parents are upset. Nobody is arguing the EDGE program isn't beneficial for the players. The issue is the communication and how it is managed. They communicated it would be included in the team fees. Then they drop the GA practice down to 2 practices a week and replace the 3rd one with EDGE. Then they are charging each player for EDGE. This seems very dishonest and misleading. We signed up for SYC and pay our annual fee expecting a certain amount of practices a week. Nobody would be arguing if they communicated and added a 4th day for Edge and charged each player. However, they remove a practice that we are clearly paying for already and decide to double charge by adding EDGE. I don't know who in management thought this was going to be a great idea and thought families would be on board with this. |
