We parents? Speak for yourself, mom. The overwhelming majority have no problem with this.

^^ Here is the person that has polled everyone.

The school sure as heck didn't poll anyone!! So glad the pp is up on things. Please get back to taking care of the school, Ms. HOS!

So you can position yourself as speaking on behalf of many but not PP? Got it! Clearly, we're all speaking for our own selves and what we understand for others. But to call someone out for that and then do it yourself, that's some lack of self awareness

Our ES has had random field trips in the $40 range. The school (via the PTO) does cover 100% of need/all students get to attend even if their parents just refuse to pay, but $90 for homecoming doesn't strike me as unreasonable for HSers if I'm paying $40 for a trip to the pumpkin patch for my 4 year old.

I took the fam of 4 to Roy Rogers last night and it was 68$ for fast food. I don't think 90$ means what you think it means anymore

This right here is why schools can't win. Money must come from somewhere. OP somehow only just discovered that clubs and sports cost money (not sure why it took them 5 years to figure that out). Then comes this person making it clear that to protest the fact that BASIS charges for things...they don't donate! Well played.

There are a small number of BASIS parents who whine and complain no matter what the school does. They complained that dances were held on campus. They complained that 8th graders were exposed to high schoolers at dances. The school worked with parents and planned an off campus dance for only 8th graders. Those same whiners were the first ones to complain about the cost and theme.

OP claims the school is "dodging questions". Weird since LAST WEEK the school held its all school meeting hosted by the HOS and her team. There were ZERO questions asked about this. Also, what's being dodged? It costs money to run dances and rent spaces and get vendors and food to staff. OP didn't ask questions and they don't actually have any questions. They just like drama. (and I think most of us know who she is).

Wretched human

I can’t tell if this is calling PP a wretched human or echoing PP’s “I think most of us know who she is” about OP.
Either way you mean girls need to calm down, we’re in public.
In my grade’s WhatsApp there were a few moms and dads unhappy with the price and one mom unhappy with the theme, so I don’t “think we all know who she is”.

Are there sports teams at basis? Is there an actual homecoming game?

Yes there are sports teams. In the fall they are soccer, xcountry, flag football for both boys and girls and at the middle school and high school level. They practice every day (not on campus) and play other schools.

"BASIS doesn't have sports" as a rumor needs to die.

Maybe they didn't have them a decade ago when they started and that's why this rumor persists? But the sports program has grown a ton.

It’s an event in DC where it’s not uncommon to have a $5,000 room rental fee, $5,000 food and beverage minimum plus audio visual, DJ or band and decor costs for an off-site event. These events can’t really be compared cost-wise to homecomings held at the school site.
