$90 BASIS Homecoming Tickets

!!!!!!! Had no idea that BASIS nickels and dimes parents as part of their operating model.

Future families should press at open houses for details on costs for clubs, sports, dances, haunted hallways, etc. This is in addition to the $2000 they suggest as family donation. Shame on BASIS for not being more transparent.

I think a lot of the grumbling and illwill families feel towards BASIS comes from having to pay for everything and the school dodging questions.

Let’s be honest. Some people prefer a population of families for whom it’s no big expenditure.

That amount of money is gross for a public or public charter school to charge for homecoming.

Wow--as a BASIS parent, I agree that this is ridiculous.

I just checked Walls and J-R hoco ticket prices. They are both $10-$20 per student, as opposed to $90 per student.

That's prom ticket prices, because they rent out an external venue. Is that what BASIS is doing? Or is it $90 and on their own campus?

They are renting out the lower level of Penn Social and it is black tie...so $$$

I haven't given a cent to the ATF since middle school. You don't have to. It's OK.

Presumably your child is in HS if you are complaining about the cost of the Homecoming tickets, so I don’t quite understand how you’re taken aback at having to pay to attend the dance. Even my kids’ elementary school had us pay fees for certain things so it doesn’t strike me as unheard of.

Maybe $90 is expensive for an offsite formal dance around here? I don’t know. Do other schools completely cover the costs of offsite dances? I grew up in a low cost of living area and our formal dances were offsite and cost $40-50 per ticket. And that was 30 years ago.

The MacArthur senior trip is almost $1700, on top of $400 senior dues. I’ll trade you!

The Basis hatred knows no bounds.

Then don’t go. No one of forcing you to attend.

This right here is why schools can't win. Money must come from somewhere. OP somehow only just discovered that clubs and sports cost money (not sure why it took them 5 years to figure that out). Then comes this person making it clear that to protest the fact that BASIS charges for things...they don't donate! Well played.

There are a small number of BASIS parents who whine and complain no matter what the school does. They complained that dances were held on campus. They complained that 8th graders were exposed to high schoolers at dances. The school worked with parents and planned an off campus dance for only 8th graders. Those same whiners were the first ones to complain about the cost and theme.

OP claims the school is "dodging questions". Weird since LAST WEEK the school held its all school meeting hosted by the HOS and her team. There were ZERO questions asked about this. Also, what's being dodged? It costs money to run dances and rent spaces and get vendors and food to staff. OP didn't ask questions and they don't actually have any questions. They just like drama. (and I think most of us know who she is).

That is a lot. I would think it is reasonable for the school to subsidize 1/2 the cost and also subsidize FARMS families.

Everyone else can pay the remaining 50%.
