How do you dress around the house?

I have an intense wfh schedule so sometimes after the gym, I have to dive right into work and suddenly it’s 8 pm and I haven’t had a chance to shower change or pee. So those days I am in athleisure all day. Other days, I like to put on a super fun outfit like frou frou dress because I own a great wardrobe and I might as well wear it. I tend not to wear tight fitting pants because I’ve finally figured out that I have interstitial cystitis and tight pants around the crotch are directly correlated to severe and painful symptoms. I guess that’s been the case my whole life but I’m just figuring it out now. I love clothes but have been avoiding pants more and more, and honestly leggings are the best for this issue, but I am trying to not slide into fully athleisure all the time. Again, because I have a pretty great wardrobe and clothes make me happy.

Weekends I wear whatever depending on what we’re doing - athleisure i end up doing work around the house all day after the gym. Nice clothes if we go out.

The one constant is every night after work, I convert to “lounge” clothes where dh and I have cocktails together. Ranges from 1960s midcentury house dresses, to la Perla silk slip dresses, to tap shorts and chemise, to floral matching sets. I wear those for 2 hours every night and then shift to a proper sleeping outfit - pajamas or nightgown. Never old tee. Sleep and cocktail hour are both sacred and deserve the proper attire!

I love everything about this other than the interstitial cystitis. I’m so very sorry, PP. It’s encouraging that you feel well enough to do this.

+1
Tiki wear would be great for cocktail hour

I'm the PP who wears the cocktail wear every night, and we live in a midcentury house in a beach town, and yes there is lots of tiki wear and tiki drinks.

OMG. I have always changed into pajama-like clothing the second I get home. I'm certainly not wearing work clothes around the house, and always felt like changing into some casual clothes for the few hours before changing into pjs was stupid!

If I'm working from home, it's covid-style. Work ready up top, leggings/sweats on bottom.

Weekend usually finds me in workout clothes.

I’d wear PJs all day long if I lived alone.

Yep, it's glorious. When I stay with other people and have to be dressed all day long, it's annoying and makes me a little cranky.

Today I had maintenance people coming between 9am and 1pm so I had to be dressed. The second I locked the door after they left, I was ripping off my clothes to change back into my nightgown. It would have been interesting if there'd been a big difference in my work while dressed, but I was just fidgety and uncomfortable.

I’m the same as other PP who change into PJs or lounge clothes when they get home. I am 58 but have been doing this forever.
*I do find that I am more productive when I change into nicer clothes if I am working from home. Those nicer clothes are still just merino wool tops and wide legged bottoms.

Probably like I crawled out of the forest after a week and robbed a very overweight hobo for his clothing. You can just picture how cute XD. I'm 35.

But really, we both have what we call "house clothes", and they are all for some reason XXL free shirts, yoga pants or shorts. I style my hair 1-2x a week, so sometimes I still look pretty acceptable haha.

43 After working out and showering in the morning I am in dress (non athletic) or skirt with nice blouse or sweater.

I'm 57. Denim shorts and a Tshirt or chino type shorts and a nicer top. Depending on what I'm doing.

I work from home and like to dress for lots of walks so in the summer, it is shorts and tees and in the winter, joggers and fleece.

It does feel sloppy but dressing in anything more restricting just means I don't get enough exercise!

What kind of nightgowns are you people wearing during the day? Like a housedress? My grandmother wore housedresses in the 60s/early 70's and I always told myself I would never do that (and I don't).

Mine look like regular sundresses, and have enough lift from shelf bra to answer the door without being (too) scandalous.

That’s a spectrum. As I used to answer the door with kid latched. lol

I buy wonderfully soft and light cotton caftans straight from India. I have an assortment of prints and I just love them. I wish I could wear them all the time. You can get them on Etsy from a variety of sellers for around $30.

Leggings and a t shirt. I also have a favorite drawstring skirt I like to wear too.

I change the minute I get home, so does DH. The kids change if they're wearing nicer clothes (school clothes are fine to keep wearing). I spend a lot of time doing laundry and I appreciate that my family isn't wearing out their nicer clothes. DH and I just like to escape our work clothes as we dress a bit more business formal.
