We visited Tulane in June and the AO giving the info session said to only submit if 1410+ SAT or 31+ ACT. Those numbers are their current 25% enrolled range.

Don't submit scores and make sure you go ED. wink

33 is neutral and does not improve.

Did they say anything about SAT scores?

Our high rigor, 4.0 UW/4.5W, lots of arts and a sport kid did not get in with a 1520. TO wasn’t great for them.

A lot of private counselors recommend submitting if at or above 50 percentile. Depending on schools, 1520 may not be enough for 50 percentile.

That's not how it works. 1520 is absolutely high enough to tick the box no matter it's 50 percentile or not. It's laughable if anyone thinks that this kid was not accepted because of SAT.

Doesn't matter because they're not test optional anymore. You must report.

is this the same in RD as ED?

Many IEC would say for RD, the bar is higher. So if 34 in ED, in RD its 35-36 (this is true for Vanderbilt).

Yes. Agree that it wasn’t the score that got them denied. They submitted. I think that TO hurt them because so many kids that didn’t submit got in. Just the way it goes I guess. We thought they had a good shot with the whole package.

Good to know. I am the PP that said 33 and 1460. My intel was from a tour/info session in November 2024, so your info is more accurate. Thanks!

But it still helps you have some gauge whether your an application is viable. Sure they must submit a score but maybe you submit an extra application if the score is out of range.

I wonder what the true median would be if they included the scores they admitted TO?

any statements made by Duke?

If a TO school has, say, a 50% SAT range of 1450-1550, then most kids (all except those with near-perfect GPAs) will likely benefit from submitting any score that's at least 1450. A 1450 score tells just about any school that the student is capable of doing the work and graduating on time, and therefore the score should help in the effort to gain admission. The main reason not to submit anything below a 1450 is that schools don't want to appear less selective year over year, and so any score below their current 25% threshold (in this example, 1450) will bring down their median 50% range and make them appear to have gotten less selective, which is something they want to avoid.

Seriously. Both my kids got 1520. One at HYP now, other at T15.
