When are MLS Next schedules released?

Looking at the schedule, taking Bethesda U16 as an example, they only play DCU once. They are not even playing Philly Union or Red Bulls. Not even once.

In all honesty, I'm sure in other true soccer countries, local teams don't play against professional club academies regularly

Additional to your observations, the Bethesda U16's will be playing against the DCU U15's
Red Bulls changed divisions btw

On the top NCAA mens teams, it looks like 85-90% of the players come from European academies or from another university first.

Can someone explain why only Philly Union's younger teams U13 and 14 play Bethesda, SYC, Armour, etc. (i.e., DC- area non academy)? Is this different this year due to WC or has this always been the case?

It’s always been the case. RedBulls moved to a more northern division. New this year is starting this season, U15 and up MLS academy teams play up an age group.
