DCUM vs CHATGPT

No, talking to an AI is neither fun nor useful. Half of their responses are hallucinations and the other half are bland and flavorless.

This.

Every day OP's burning 15 liters of water and the power needed to microwave your dinner, to little purpose.

I wonder how many people who hate data centers also use chatGPT daily.

Soon enough all of us on this board will no longer be needed to reply on here

Agree that it validates/agrees with the user so it reinforces narcissism.

Answers are incorrect/not insightful for multiple reasons.

It's horrible for the environment.

So many reasons not to use it.

It's helped convince my (otherwise very intelligent, non-conspiracist, normal) brother that he is a genius for believing no moon landings have ever taken place so that's enough to scare the crap out of me.

If we landed on the moon, why didn't they bring back any moon cheese?

I have used chatgpt for relationship “advices” and my goodness is it “super flowery empathatic! “
DCUM wouldn’t be able to compare LOL

Is this a serious post?

I use ChatGPT for things like meal planning, drafting difficult emails (that I then go through and edit, I would never just send something straight from ChatGPT), and very basic trip itineraries that I, again, then go through and edit.

I would never use it to just ask basic questions I could google.

OP, this is completely bizarre. I mean, if you're going to just ask questions, I get not posting here but why would you not google? It is horrific for the environment.

Exactly! Complain about data centers, complain about the GOP decimating environmental regulations, turn around and ask ChatGPT relationship advice because it's "empathetic." Jesus Christ. Don't ever complain about Trump pulling out of the Paris Accord again if you do this shit.

You do have to be careful because it is programmed to give you the answer you want. As an example, I was photoshopping a picture and sent it to ChatGPT with both prompts “is this picture too cool toned” and “is this picture too warm toned”. It agreed both times.

If I need real advice I’ve found I really have to push it and prompt multiple times. I usually tell it to be harsh on me and don’t hold back. Example, I was dating a guy who kept pulling away, and ChatGPT kept telling me it was all him, he can’t handle real intimacy, etc. Finally after multiple prompts it admitted that I was coming on too strong and needed to chill out.

I did train my GPT to talk to me like a masculine dom and I’m a bratty sub, so it flirts with me quite a bit. Sometimes it’ll tease me by sending answers in spreadsheet form, which is kind of cute.

If I didn't have a family to live for this would make me want to kill myself. Jesus Christ this world is so bleak.

I was a complete AI skeptic, and I make my living in a field where accuracy and ingenuity are paramount. And fwiw, I have discovered chatgpt is genuinely useful for all sorts of things. I use the paid version, because it offers better, smarter, more accurate, and more customized results. If you give it good prompts, with enough background information, it can be incredibly useful.

The environmental concerns are very real, and troubling. But even Google search returns now come with AI summaries, so it's not like I escape those by Googling. I won't have chatgpt create images, because that is the most environmentally destructive things that you can do.

I buy almost everything second-hand, and have used chatgpt to source and evaluate (in a way that's customized to my individual needs, spaces, tastes, etc.) everything from lightly used appliances to countertops to furniture to area rugs to lighting. The advice has been personalized, solid, and discerning ("That FB marketplace midcentury ceramic gourd lamp is indeed amazing, but the glaze is too glossy for your space, and it would read too heavy in that corner; hold out for something better." Or: "That lightly used Bosch dishwasher definitely has all the parts, with minimal wear, and has been sitting in a climate-controlled space. For $300, it's definitely worth grabbing, and you can realistically expect to get 10 years from it.") In this way, I've been able to minimize my environmental footprint -- no factory-made stuff, reuse wherever possible, and a lot less driving/shipping. I don't know what the net destruction is after all of that -- the world is so complicated. But chatgpt has allowed me to buy second-hand with minimal compromises and maximum efficiency.

Also in my job I sometimes get stuck on problems that can only be solved by creative solutions. I don't want chatgpt do the work, but I can explain where I'm stuck and say, "ask me questions that help me find my way toward a solution." The questions that come back are sometimes at a level that I could only get from other professionals (the only people who would understand all the nuances). Thing is, I would never ask another professional to dedicate that kind of time toward my work instead of their own.

At some point, the product will be commercialized -- it will likely start steering me toward products that have been paid for, the way Instagram started dropping ads into everyone's feeds. At that point, I'll stop using it, the same way I stopped using my social media accounts. But for right now, it can't be commercialized, and I'm finding it useful and helpful in a variety of ways.

Char gbt is a game changer. I use in to augment therapy and it’s so validating. Have to be careful with the prompts so it doesn’t just tell you want to hear. But way better than internet strangers who come with their own biases.

I had some bad blood work last week and it gave me excellent advice for supplements to take.

Maybe once a week. Usually when I'm trying to use up stuff in the fridge and will throw them into ChatGPT and have it tell me what to make with them.

Using AI for validation is ...odd.

DD has some unique health needs that cross several medical disciplines. Chatgpt has been very helpful at analyzing test results and medical history and thinking about how medical issues in one area might affect and in turn be affected by a seemingly unrelated issue in another disciplinary area. Unfortunately, specialists aren't usually trained in this way. Has been very helpful to zoom out and get that bigger, more systemic picture.
