And this is why someone might choose to do it over email. I was not teary. My boss was.

Unless you are relatively junior, 2 weeks is semi unprofessional in my opinion

You are free to opine however you want, but the US standard corporate expectation is for a departing employee to give two weeks' notice. Following the accepted standard is never unprofessional, unless you are in an industry/company with different expectations.

Op here- I am a single mom and I'm worried that if I gave more notice, they would tell me to just finish out two weeks and be done. My new job pays once a month on the 30th so already my next check is going to be Sept 30th and that's a long stretch for me financially without getting paid.

In most states it’s illegal to pay employees only once a month. The usual/legal max is usually once every two weeks. Where are you?!

What?! I was paid once a month for years and years in DC. Now I am paid twice a month (which is longer than two weeks).

I think you’re dreaming.

Every two weeks seems to be the most common, though.

Congrats on the new job and good luck. Well done. It's a brutal job market.

Your boss can take a hike. Lol just joking. Option C. He gets it. He is a boss. At one point in time he was like you and had to give notice.

Have a great weekend. Drink some wine. Take a gummy. Or eat some shrooms. Enjoy life.

Doesn't the US House of Representatives pay staffers once a month? I know they did as recently as 2023, but perhaps they have changed it.

Good luck at your new job, OP!
