I was planning on giving two weeks notice friday, but I just saw my boss is out weds-fri. I love her dearly and don't want her to feel like I'm going around out her or stress her out on vacation. WWYD?

A. Give notice to her boss instead. He just started last week and I don't know him yet.
B. Wait til Monday- this is my work anniversary and the day will start with a company wide email about it and everyone "replying all" about how much they value me (awkward)
C. Give 2.5 weeks notice tomorrow before her vacation

To make it worse, another colleague unexpectedly gave notice this past Friday and they have already asked if I'd be willing to train for that role and i feel so disingenuous carrying out those conversations this week ugh.

Yes, give 2.5 week notice tomorrow before vacation.

Option C is the right call.

I would just give notice now. 3-4 weeks is a perfectly reasonable amount of notice for a professional with good work relationships and if they are asking you to train for a new role it’s time to tell them.

Op here- thanks. Still the right call to "ruin" her well deserved vacation with half her team giving notice in the week before she leaves?

Or today.

If you do c. Expect them to unapprove your vacation. Most companies have policies not allowing PTO after notice is given.

I'd email it Friday as you intended to your boss.

I do have a one on one with her in an hour, but wasn't mentally prepared to do it today.

My boss is going on vacation, not me

Yes, give the notice now. Let her have her vacation to get over it and not ruin her "return to office" even more with your notice.

Will it be better trying to squeeze it in or doing it by email tomorrow? I doubt it.

Today is the right time. Get yourself ready now.

I would just do it today op. Two weeks is kind of short these days, most people give more so if you can, give her some time to process this before her vacation on Wednesday. I know it’s hard but it won’t be easier on Wednesday. And then you won’t have to set up a separate time.

It’s always hard but then it’s over and bosses know this happens - she’ll be ok.

Do it before she leaves. There's no SET rule that says it has to be 10 business days. It can be 14!
