My only impression of DR is randomly being at Metro Swim one day in early summer and overhearing that their team suit options (for girls) were either Jolyns or Aquablades. Jolyn for the older girls I can understand, but your 8&U does not need an Aquablade for her handful of B-meets...

That is hilarious and ridiculous. I wish NVSL would create a rule for no tech suits except for Divisional meets and All Star meets. Tech suits at dual meets is not in the spirit of summer league. |
+1 - I was told there were two teams proposing tech suit rules this year. I wonder what happened? |
As in proposing no tech suits? Honestly NVSL makes the whole rule proposing process difficult. You propose the rule in a vacuum after the season is over. Generally you are too busy with other things and it just falls through the cracks. To make it worse, you are given the rules (with very little background and no discussion) to vote on at the seeding meeting. Oftentimes, learning right then and there. Most of the reps are new and don't know what they are doing. They get nervous about change. You also have the higher division pools who want tech suits and every advantage that they can get. They are crazy competitive and do not treat it like a summer league. |
Yes - the explanation of the rules at this meeting was pretty bad. Most of the people I was sitting with did not understand it until we all talked and it was explained. |
Your ignorance is embarrassing. Aquablades aren’t tech suits - they’re just a regular Speedo model that lots of teams use: https://us.speedo.com/aquablade.list |
Your ignorance is ridiculous and I am not PP from Metro Swim. Aquablades are a performance suit that are approved for 12&U. They are expensive too. Kids will wear them when they are not wearing tech suits. The suit is supposed to channel and repel water. It is a ridiculous choice for a summer rec league - for price alone. If DR could get everyone in a $400 tech suit I am sure that they would. But, not just DR. All of them. There are teams that collect club swimmers gently used tech suits so the non-club swimmers will be able to swim in the dual meet in a tech suit. That is not summer league. It is ridiculous. Fox Hunt will have 25 kids in tech suits for a Saturday morning. WHY? No kid is going to college on NVSL times. It is crazy. |
actually *your* ignorance is embarrassing: Speedo Aquablades are considered an entry-level tech suit or a competitive racing suit. Engineered with hydro-reflective fabric, they are designed to reduce drag, offer moderate compression, and enhance speed for competitive swimmers, making them a durable, budget-friendly option compared to high-end, elite technical. they are also a solid $30-40 more than regular team suits |
For real? why is it that the teams that come from lower divisions and have moved up fast are always INSANE! |
Someone is still struggling to cope with their loss to fox hunt. I don’t recall seeing this at all when we swam against them. Their 15-18 groups didn’t have very many club swimmers and those groups were definitely weaker than the rest of the team. Or the pp must be thinking of another team. |
Love you PP, you and I basically responded the same.
|
We swam against them last summer. We were not even a threat to them. I think we counted 20+ tech suits. The reps said they were going for records. They didn't tell our rep either in advance. So apparently half of the team at that A meet was going for a record (I think two happened). We found it to be crazy. No need for bitterness. Their fast rise could be because of their coach, who has moved on. |
So you are counting 12&u suits as tech suits. |
No, these were 13&O kids both boys and girls. |
| Aquablades cost the same as the generic suits that our team uses for team suits. Maybe some other teams are finding team suits for a steal, but ours are the same price as an Aquablade- no $30-40 difference. I would consider an Aquablade a "racing" as opposed to a "training" suit, but definitely not a tech suit. (Not PP, just adding) |
