Again, if the alternative was an exact same priced house and public school in VA and DC I guess, but if you go to even just a few years of private school with one kid that cost is cancelled out, and/or needing to pay more to buy the house in the suburbs.

I was referring to the comment below - honestly just don’t know what doughnut hole family means…

Doughnut hole is when you make too much money to qualify for financial aid but not enough to pay for college outright. Usually people in high cost of living areas.

A lot of schools - Duke was really good about this- have upped financial aid for families with HHI in the 200s in HCOL areas because they were missing out on essentially middle class kids, but it’s not every school

If you go private. If you want a big suburban house. We didn’t do private. Could easily have bought a house in the burbs for the same price as ours in DC.

At least we had DC TAG.
