How many states have you been to?

I have been to 36 states, and I would like to visit them all.

I still need:
OR, WA, ND, SD, NE, IA, KS, OK, AR, KY, IN, MI, AK, NM

I am considering SD next summer - still thinking about it.

You aim for pretentious but you’re really just predictably dull. There are things worth seeing in all 50 states. Understanding one’s own country is crucially important. I don’t understand people who feel they are too good to visit a place.

If you ever deign to visit Alabama, I’d recommend the Frank Lloyd Wright house commissioned by a local Jewish family in Florence, the FAME and Muscle Shoals Sound Studios tours (Aretha Franklin, Rolling Stones, Black Keys all felt it was worth a trip to Alabama to record), Helen Keller’s birthplace, and the NASA museum in Huntsville. I did all this in the spring when I was back visiting the US. I’m more excited to hit my 50 state goal than I was to visit 100 countries.

Agreed. That poster is so ignorant and obnoxious. How would they know which ones are beautiful if they haven't been there?

Wyoming is huge and I've barely seen it. But I got out of my car in a small town and had a picnic (okay, a beer) with friends next to a river. That counts IMO.

Montana is also huge and my only time there is skiing at Lookout Pass which straddles the border. That counts too.

I'd love to spend more time in both states.

Interesting point. I’ve skied in many states but sometimes haven’t been elsewhere in the state. I’ve been to Jackson WY probably 10 times, but not elsewhere in WY. Also skied twice in Montana but have been to Billings and Bozeman as well so seen a little more there.

Wow. I just counted them up and realizes that I am only missing 8 of them... Oregon, North Dakota, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Alabama, Kentucky, and Iowa. For sure I would like to visit them all!

SD is great, do it!

If looking for suggestions, Key West, Florida, Couer d'Alene, Idaho, and Hawaii might be of interest to you.

Thank you. I've been to Coeur d’Alene and Hawaii but would love to go to Key West and Miami. I've been to multiple other places in Florida. This is what I mean by so much to see and so little time. Also haven't been, for instance, to Niagara Falls even though I've been to NYC 10 times and been so many other places all around the country. There's always more....

All but Alaska, Montana and maybe South Dakota.

I also don't think business trips, where you only see the airport and an office and maybe a restaurant, count.

But counting all of that anyway: 38

You don't remember whether or not you went to South Dakota?

You should do it and join their club! https://www.fargomoorhead.org/best-for-last-club/

That's so funny, I'll have to tell my family. My mom grew up in NoDak so we drove there every summer.

But don't just visit the eastern part (Fargo). The western part has badlands in Teddy Roosevelt park, and the cute little (tourist trap) western town of Medora (there's a seat with my name on it).

I only count states if I've actually done something or visiting something there (like a museum, National or state park, etc.)
I've driven through Minnesota and Wisconsin (even spent the night in a hotel in Wisconsin) but I didn't stop and do or see anything there so I don't count those.

I think driving across a state is seeing way more of it than you do for business travel, even if you stay for a week, but only see the inside of an office.

Montana and SD are the only states that share a border not crossed by a paved road.

And driving through most certainly counts, as do business trips.
Airport layovers, no.

NP. Niagara Falls can be missed. I like the Adirondacks a lot more.

I'm so curious as to how PP came up with those 3 random suggestions...
