Congrats to the '26 Hilltop team playing as 27's and finally getting called out at NLF. It's rumored they had to forfeit after teams having said enough is enough. |
That is crazy if true - has anyone else heard this? |
Why is it crazy? Sounds like a day ending in y. |
Looks like they took the MadLax bros behind the woodshed |
What if they're thinking about PG'ing? What then? |
That's no longer in the rules in most tournaments of any substance. The ones NL runs still allows it but not tournaments like NLF or Naptown. |
Why is the player of the year playing as a summer 2026? Why would a player of that caliber have to pg? |
Academics? No roster spot till following year? |
Because he committed on May 30 his senior year and you cannot get in to a Naval school at that hour for 2025-26. So it's PG or bus tables in the meantime. |
Saw them play a few times this summer. Even at this age, they were noticeably bigger than everyone else. They still aren't that much better but I doubt one kid was younger than 17, and I would guess there were likely several 18 year old's playing. I hope it's an awkward feeling for their parents as they watch their '26 son (who is thinking about reclassing or doing a PG year) play younger competition. I don't have an issue with holdbacks in HS, but I do take issue with a team that promotes itself on its' ability to give players a place to experiment with playing down a year. What a joke, and good for the NLF for DQ-ing them. |
If they were dq'd, why did they play one more game? |
Naptown wasn’t age verified. NAL was - players are not allowed to play younger than the grade they just completed. So if you were a 26 in the 24/25 school year, you play 26 this summer in NAL - even if you are reclassing to 27 for the 25/26 school year. |
Hilltop played another game after the supposed forfeit. Did they play with a shortened roster? Why weren't they forced to forfeit the other 2 games. |
NLF let them play the weekend out since they were already there and other teams wouldn’t miss out on playing a game. They just couldn’t advance to the championship bracket even though they went 3-0 in pool play. More than 1/2 the team was ineligible, so they let them all play so they had enough to field a team. |
Hopefully they bought everyone a round for the trouble they caused. |
