Given WW3, should we cancel Europe travel plans

We’ve worn out our welcome with bad behavior

Our bad behavior? I don’t think Americans are the worst tourists in Europe. Not even close. Plus the locals in those cities are entitled jerks. They want the tourist dollars but not the tourists. Sorry but it doesn’t work like that.

The airbnbs often are owned by locals and a source of income - it's business there just like it is in the US.

It's really that Americans are leveraging lax immigration systems and moving to Europe and taking advantage of their way of life because the US has gotten out of control with costs, culture and the slimeball running the show here. That is what is ruining Europe for everyone except Americans.

I know 3 families that will be relo to Europe before end of yr and renouncing American citizenship without a second thought. They are going to Portugal, Spain and France. All have family ties/hate Trump and realize there's only more pain to come in the US. Europe isn't perfect but it is def a simpler lifestyle and there is a freedom there now that you really are seeing less of in the US.

I do not believe you that you know three families that are renouncing US citizenship, and I say that as a dual US-EU citizen. You can keep both. It is expensive and time consuming to renounce the US citizenship, even if it means paying some taxes every year.

Nope, the worst tourists are the Spanish and the UK chavs. We were in Turkey last year and ended up altering plans to avoid Spanish tour groups. Loud, pushy, culturally disrespectful. And the chavs in Egypt, OMG. Just stumbling drunk (in a muslim country!), making out in public, haranguing the locals over everything, shrieking conversations, etc.

AirBnB is a blight on a city. This includes other companies like VRBO. The only possible exception is if the owner also lives on the property full time and also rents it out 2-3 weeks a year while they are on vacation.

How? Their bombs don't reach this far. They do reach southern Europe though.

NP. Hezbollah has the ability to attack inside the United States. It wouldn't be a bomb launched from Tehran.

We are a NATO family in Europe. I'm worried about going to the U.S. this summer, but also worried about a broader war breaking out now thanks to Netanyahu and Trump. If I were OP I would be less worried about visiting Europe in the near term, but just keep your eye on world events.

If you’re concerned, avoid cities and places American tourists visit.

What do you mean you’re a NATO family? Do you mean you’re a US military family? Because I think that would be more accurate.

Even if the U.S. attacks Iran there won't be any "WW3"; nobody is coming to rescue the Iranians; the theocracy will collapse and that will be that. There is no reason whatsoever to expect European involvement in any conflict involving Iran. Iran has no reason to attack any European countries, and lacks the capacity to actually do so beyond random terror which has always been a risk with them.

But, if you'd feel more comfortable, by all means stay home and conduct civil defense drills to make sure your fallout shelter is ready.

The anti-tourist protests are tied to housing costs: airbnbs and similar platforms coupled with foreigners snatching up comparatively cheap housing has prompted a legit housing crisis in all the touristy parts of Italy, Croatia, Portugal, Spain, etc.

It has nothing to do with bad behavior of tourists or our president.

But if you are staying in an Airbnb, then you are part of the problem.

DP

The OP isn’t being ridiculous to be concerned.

The reality is terror threat levels will be raised across Europe. It will be acts of terrorism, not WWIII.

Having said that, drones are freely available, so I might avoid stadiums and some tourist areas. I’d also avoid public transit.

The US is going to war with Iran because Israel is too weak to fight Iran. This puts a target on all Americans.

THIS. Im the OP.

Got it. So don’t stay in an AirBnB which means not visiting with more than a couple kids? Is that your suggestion?
