(Mirror) Look in it. |
Yeah many areas haven't added it in a while if ever. People freaking out are the types who are glued to the "news" to learn what to obsess about and freak out over next. Like the long post I made on the first page said, if someone is worried about getting enough fluoride, simply swallow the toothpaste when brushing. Simple. |
I was 10 or 11 years old when our water got fluoridated in the 60s. Back in those days toothpaste ads would extol the child who had only 1 cavity at their checkup. I've read the arguments against it and am not certain (also the level of natural fluoride in drinking water has an effect), but objections to fluoride have always been about "government control" more than anything else. What about the routine supplementation of milk with vitamin D or iodine in salt? Are we ready for a return to rickets and goiters? |
With modern more balanced diets they are no longer necessary. The Vit D was added mostly for an ethnic minority who lived in cities in poverty who were prone to rickets. 20 min sun exposure a couple times of week gives you more Vit D than drinking 10 gallons of milk a week. But money is involved, and many in the public would cry they are being deprived of their vitamins and electrolytes, if changes like that were made, so it remains in this day and age more as a security blanket and marketing strategy than a necessity. |
That doesn’t make any sense. It’s for your teeth. You should brush with fluoride and get some in your water. There’s no need to swallow, that’s just a fact of it being in the water. Here’s the thing - yes, I will be fine - I’ll use fluoride toothpaste and get treatment at the dentist. I’m on well water anyway. But this nonsense that a study showed x ppm is toxic, so the maha freakshows go on the warpath about 0.3x because they have no idea how toxicity levels work is a huge problem. |
Ma'am, some of us still have teeth in our mouths and haven't swallowed them yet. Do you... have a gizzard? |
Read more. Try to understand what you read. Don't be so reactive and accept that you need to learn more. |
Don’t be so condescending you’re the whacky MAHA that doesn’t know how to brush your teeth. |
See, you react rather than reflect and learn. Anger is your go-to emotion. |
And yet obesity rates in America are astonishing and our life expectancy is actually DECREASING. Our life expectancy is 76 while it’s 81 in Europe and their morbidity is far lower too. Go figure. |
Rachel Frazin wrote “Poisoning the Well: How Forever Chemicals Contaminated America”. She had been a speaker at Politics and Prose. Please fight for cleaner water, people. Not everyone can afford the expensive water systems at home. |
This. Too many chemicals added to it, either intentionally or via pollution and polluted environmental issues that plague many reservoirs/rivers. Too many microplastics, Too many pharmaceuticals. This is a HUGE problem that is not solved by traditional water treatment facilities and it is building up in many areas and affecting children the most. |
Well said. Thank you. |
But they take fluoride pills. So what’s the difference? |
Freedom of choice. |
