So I guess this is the death knell for Fall Brawl, Valentines Shootout and the like? Gotta think any team in those that goes by their school names is out. At least St James used nicknames but who knows. |
The Oakton Turkey Shootout that has been around for many years is no longer posted on the laxnova website, so there must be some sort of truth the the VHSL rules changing, or being enforced differently. I'm also assuming that the two are related. |
Why would VEL be able to have a league? Why would Madlax be able to start a new league with NFHS teams? Why would the Fall Brawl be able to have a tournament? What do you assume must be happening in their cases? |
There's a couple of layers to the VHSL rules but essentially these are all the same as club events in the eyes of VHSL. All 3 require players pay an outside entity directly which makes them not school sponsored events.
They also don't use fcps school facilities on Sunday. For Fairfax specifically coaches should not be on the sidelines. Another rule change for this year is that athletes from multiple schools can longer attend team camps together. Not a factor here but something else to keep in mind. |
Who cares |
We wish you did, so you vould join the conversation as a valid and meaningful contributor. Please let us know if your mind changes. We would love to have you, you sound like a great person. |
This not a VHSL issue. Fairfax County Public Schools made several changes to off-season related team activities to include the use to FCPS Fields/Facilities, and Fundraising related events that programs ran on FCPS Fields. VEL is a run at George Mason University, and the Madlax league is run at a private school, so these new FCPS rules don't apply. The events that were canceled, were on FCPS Fields, and a fundraising mechanism for the programs that ran them. Both are not allowed anymore. |
