DC Express?

IMHO highschool travel makes no sense for the boy who is not committed to playing in college. Unlike grade school and middle school- summers in highschool are very important, you get a job, internships, learn to drive, study for the SAT/ACT apply to college, get a girlfriend etc. travel ball is too much of an investment to not get more out of it than memories

no, it is a terrible spot because he will the same limited playing time on DCE as ML/NL. If he doesn't care about recruiting just to with whichever of the three B teams (ML DMV, NL Red, or DCE Orange) he likes best.

How can that be the case, at least for the next few class years? Won’t DCE Black be comprised largely of kids leaving their programs for greener pastures and would tend to be toward the bottom of the depth chart on their teams like ML, NL, Hawks, etc.? For the next class up for example - the 2031s - the BLC team is not competitive at all, plays in the very last HoCo bracket, etc. etc. and I’d imagine has maybe one or two kids good enough to make a DCE Black quality team. Where will they find 20+ kids good enough to start for the ML, NL, Hawks/Crabs clubs but willing to leave for a new DCE team?

Trust me, they will find them. Often it is the better players on ML and NL, not the weaker ones, who move over to DCE. Plus DCE will recruit players as far south as Richmond, north as Philly, and east as Annapolis. For example, DCE 2028 was one of the weaker teams in HoCo in spring of 2024, but now are better than Madlax and Next Level. If your son is not good enough to qet playing meaningful time at ML or NL, moving to DCE will not solve the problem, and might make it worse.

+1
The bottom third of the roster on all three of those programs is like a revolving door of players chasing game time. Movement at the top third of the roster is less frequent, but it definitely happens, and the DCE teams are typically net winners relative to NL and ML.

A new club is forming in moco.

a new club is always forming somewhere. but the top players will not go to a program unless it is a well known name like MadLax, Next Level, or DC Express, or possibly VLC. and if one of those four is not a good fit, they they will drive to Baltimore or Annapolis to play for an established team like Crabs. 91, or Hawks before playing for a start up. the problem with a start up is that it has no track record or credibility with college coaches, and it won't be able to get into top tournaments like NLF.

Team 91 Bethesda? True MoCo? 3D DC? The possibilities are endless!

Appreciate the perspective - thanks. Refreshing. My son goes to a school thats decent at lacrosse in high school. Sends 2 or 3 kids to D1/D3 schools a year. But not a powerhouse by any stretch. I always assumed he’d have to continue club into high school to make sure he makes the school team and gets playing time but maybe a B team for the likes of ML, NL etc is the way to go at that point since I don’t think he’s got enough D1 chops to be recruited. Makes me feel better about his dwindling playing time on the A team that the rat race probably isn’t going to be worth it once he’s through middle school

B teams are the highschool level are unconscionable money grabs.

Very interesting. this is an old club that folded, and is now back from the dead. They are smart to begin with 7th grade so the program has a couple of years to ripen before recruiting begins for HS teams.

MadLax and Next Level can't be happy about this - it will hurt their B team numbers right away and start to eat into their A teams over time.

Who is Cormac Giblin - I assume Kevin Giblin's son?

What do people think of DMV Rebels? Probably a money grab but what are the options for a kid who started as a freshman in highschool and wants more practice and coaching so they continue to improve and play more on their HS team?

Why? What are other options for hs kids who want to keep playing but can’t make these more elite teams?

I've never heard of them, but from their web page they look like a fairly professional but more low key program for kids who want to play summer and fall tournaments. They don't play in HoCo, which is interesting, because there are HoCo divisions for all levels of play so they could do it if they wanted.
I am guessing that maybe it caters to kids who play baseball or soccer and lacrosse is their second sport.
I would be interested to know why someone says it is horrendous; it looks to me like a good alternative to the B teams of NL and ML.

Very, very rec program participating in smyl. Any players of note end up at Team MD or Zingo's. It's based out of Olney so they just don't attract beltway families.
