Sorry but Sidwell's PE requirement is not the same as other schools.

Right. At Sidwell students are actually required to do some kind of physical activity (PE or team) for 11 of the 12 seasons. At Bullis juniors and seniors can take a sport OR activity (drama, yearbook) and freshman/sophomores can fulfill their one semester/year requirement by being a manager. Not too much physical activity there.

I'd rather have my student in an activity that is 2-3 hours after school than a 45 minute yoga class and then walking to z burger as their afternoon activity.

Former Landon parent here: Sidwell made a very sensible decision. The 'play at all costs' mentality is not good and it brings real attitude with it. Good for Sidwell.

Or hanging out at somebody's house - usually a working or negligent parent's abode.

What schools have ALL hs/us students involved in afterschool activities or afterschool gym classes that are 2-3 hours long?

Why can't they do both? I know several kids who do the 45 minute yoga class and also do an activity.

What was the cost for the just-completed football/lacrosse turf field with surrounding track with two brand new basketball courts/weight room/dance studio below? Maybe Sidwell doesn't prioritize sports, but this must be one of the nicest facilities in the area!

There isn't one.

Sidwell just isn't a meathead school. The emphasis at Sidwell is on academics as opposed to football--as well it should be.

There are somethings that are more important than playing at all costs.

If you don't understand that, then there is a reason why you aren't at Sidwell.

Sidwell has been terrible at the glamor sports in the area for quite some time: Football, basketball, and lacrosse. These 3 sports are by far the most recgonized and most popular sports at the HS level. Sidwell, historically has always fielded a very competitive soccer team though.

Actually my DD goes to a girls school in the area and all girls are required to do an afterschool activity every term. If it's a sports team or theater it will be 2-3 hours every afternoon. If it is a PE class it will be more like 1.5-2 hours.

Actually, the basketball team is terrific. I agree about football and men's lacrosse though. Sidwell also has excellent soccer and cross country teams.
