GDS Head of School

Yom just announced her departure too. Next year will be a year of transition, but with great promise.

Good riddance. She sucked.

Where is she going? The timing is odd.

It doesn’t say where she’s going…. I thought she would have signed her contract months ago?

She was clearly fired. They didn't give her a year to feather out on a victory tour. They named an interim. She's out with no new role named.

And here's the thing - she was detested by so many of her teachers in high school and by many students who found her off putting, not present, and heavy handed. And before you say, "no my kid loved her", I'm a 15 year GDS parent, have seen multiple principals at each level. She was by far the absolute worst.

GDS needs a parent listserv.

Her email said it was for health reasons.

Her letter said she is leaving because of health issues that she’s been dealing with for a few years. Sounds like her decision. Highly doubt she was fired. Wouldn’t a school just not renew a contract if they wanted to replace the head of a division. That happens earlier in the year.

Hard to say what happened precisely but it is no doubt a huge victory for retaining the best teachers in the high school. Those teachers are (and were) amazing, and were fleeing for the exits under the leadership style. We are thrilled.

The only survey prospective parents might get would be on the application/admissions process, which is the only thing they could comment on with authority.

I think there are questions you could ask new families on what facets of a school/education/community that they value in ranking terms.....their opinions are still important. Clearly remove them from questions related to historic or current experiences that they have had no access too.

We were new last year and among the other new families we know - none of us fit your categories as being alum or sibling families. This is naive - there are many new families who had zero connection to GDS. In the survey - there are reasonable questions that new families should be given the opportunity to answer in terms of how they rank various qualities of a HOS and what how they prioritize a list of items on what GDS should focus on in the future. they should also get the opportunity to add open comment on their values and priorities.
