Where? Most responsible people know that is not allowed and very dangerous.

But, why do we accept the fact that our waterways are so polluted that we shouldn’t touch them.

We don't. Which is why we are investing in fixing the ancient infrastructure and have several non-profit organizations with volunteers working to improve it.

You can only clean it to a degree. It's in an urban area and road run off (aka: motor oil) is going to happen.

Looks like water testing is that it’s usually well under target levels, except after major rains. (And I don’t let them put head under and they bathe right after.). I’ll admit I find the rain thing counter intuitive because it seems like more water would be safer (dilute the nasty stuff) but apparently it just washes too much stuff in from the yards.

And remember that all the pollutants from MD and VA (Potomac River) flow downstream into DC waterways.

Continue on your Google journey to learn about the combined sewer system! It’s fascinating. Bottom line though, as the creek gets closer to the Potomac, there are Combined Sewer Overflows which mix storm water and water from our household drains (pooooooo) and dump them into the creek when they exceed capacity. Up where you are, all the storm water and the household drains are separate. We’re working on it! Big tunnels! Lots of fascinating infrastructure.

But yes, because of that and the things that run into the creek with stormwater generally, it is a good idea to be mindful of recent rainfall if you’re swimming/wading.

My understanding is that RFK Jr was right by the CSOs, which is a pretty stupid place to take your kids swimming even if you have brain worms.

lol I truly appreciate you finding the silver lining in this being an opportunity to learn about the Combined Sewer System. especially since I have no doubt that with today’s politics, we would never ever have a public sewer system if it has not been installed 100+ years ago.

Oh but gurl. It is happening.

Even with today’s politics did you know that they have been digging HUGE ASS TUNNELS under your feet these past ten ish years? Did you know that those tunnels now hold hundreds of thousands of gallons of water when there is rain so that less has to overflow out into the creeks and rivers and more can go to Blue Plains?

And did you know that Blue Plains is a legit world class facility? We’re talking Japan/Germany are jealous of us-level sh!t okay. ARMIES OF BACTERIA ARE WORKING FOR YOU DOWN THERE. Sophisticated bacteria. Fancy, science bacteria, like the bacteria probably have advanced degrees idk. Do you remember that egg video with “bigger than before?” The water leaves CLEANER THAN BEFORE. Go look at where the water leaves Blue Plains and goes back into the river, all the animals are basically having a party, okay. That’s where that stupid mfer should have gone swimming (although obviously please don’t swim in the river is is very dangerous).

Anyway, get vaccinated.

lol I love your optimism. we need Blue Plains swag.

Best field trip our kids ever had!

Embarrassing that DC is such a cesspool that yo can't safely swim in any of it's waterways.

In the summer I bike from Lake needwood down to military road and I see people splashing in the creek all along my route.

+1 Sadly, there's a lot of polluted water bodies in the USA. And I imagine there will be more with the EPA being gutted.

Yeah but our waterways are not a cesspool.

Except arguably that one part of rock creek, after heavy rains, if by “cesspool” you mean “planned combined sewer overflow.”

It was the latest in a series of peculiar incidents related to Mr. Kennedy’s outdoorsman persona. As a teen in the 1970s, Mr. Kennedy earned a reputation as a reckless adventurer, eating bushmeat and enduring disease on trips to South America and on African safaris. He later earned notoriety for his handling of the carcasses of dead animals — including a whale and a baby bear.

Mr. Kennedy has also said that a parasitic worm had “got into my brain and ate a portion of it and then died.”

That can happen anywhere that people have tapeworms and don't THROUGHLY wash their hands after defecating.

The eggs stick under the finger nails and then presto, into the food they handle and is eaten by others.

Just one of the many reasons I never eat at places where I don't know the cooks.

Lol! How do you manage this? Do you never leave home, only ever eat your own packed food, or travel with personal chefs? Fascinated by this lifestyle.

I meet and know people. I think you kids call it "networking" or something.

Get out more. Quit hiding in your bubble.

Kids doing it = common all across the world.
Adults over 30 doing it = fairly uncommon.
Hence the "OMG" reactions of all.

Anyone know the number for child protection services? If any dem tried to force their kids to swim in sewage they’d be arrested pretty quickly…
