Favorite US city to wander

I’ve been hours and hours wandering both NYC and San Francisco. Love them both.

SF is also great on foot--we had some lovely walks in Golden Gate park but also ventured out to see the elephant seals just a short drive away.

DC is also very ped friendly, but presumably you already live in the DMV.

Agree with all of this. You can easily wander DC for hours but I assumed you were from around here.

NYC, the boroughs as well.
Miami
L.A./Hollywood/SantaMonica
Chicago northside
Seattle
New Orleans

LA is not a wandering city.

The riverwalk? All for tourists.

The Riverwalk is charming for a half an hour. After that, not much to do in San Antonio.

Are you kidding? You wander in Venice or Innsbruck. NYC and the Chicago neighborhoods. Def not New Orleans, Austin, San Antonio, etc. Maybe a bit in Boston and a touch in Philly. Not SF.

I was gonna say the same.

2nd place would be Chicago - esp the neighborhoods.

I'm not sure there's any other metro city - the US is not designed to "wander" sorry. We're a country that is suburban based. We drive. Unless you are visiting a quaint little town, *major* cities include NYC, Chicago and maybe LA/SF. That's it. Hey I love Philly + Charleston but let's be real.

Philly is extremely walkable

U.S. cities. Venice is great for wandering, but doesn’t apply here. SF is a great city for trekking around.

It’s been a long time but Greenville was fun to walk around.

St Augustine I’ve done. And my kids thought it was so scary.
A man (probably a rapist or serial killer) stood behind me SO close. I didn’t have a bag or objects with me - I was not a pickpocket target.

We wanted to get cash last minute for a handsome cab. The only atm was in the scariest interior alley of a building possible. DH and I were like “no way we’re getting ride + tip (like 150) out right here.”

My kids were scared to be young and exposed to “save yourself before the end!!!” signs. And we are religious…

Daytime recommendation if you have kids. Without kids, watch out for your valuables.

New poster to this thread. We walked to the Alamo, Hemisfair, and Historic Market Square from the River Walk. If you like to walk, you can walk. You can also bike to the other missions. I'd actually rather "wander" around in San Antonio than NYC. I mean I walk all over NYC, but I don't consider it wandering as such Wandering to me implies you're somewhere not super dense with some places to go but not an overwhelming number of places to go.

Also agree Philly is very walkable!
