Schedule for PVS LC Age Group Championships (summer JO's)

I don’t know how they can compress it shorter than 4 days, but holding the meet over 5 days because they want to leave Saturday open is less than ideal if you live in VA and your swimmer will make finals. Staying in a hotel in College Park from Wednesday night until Monday is pricey, not to mention the fact that it impacts 3 workdays. People can suck it up and make a choice between their summer meet and LC champs on Saturday.

Given the significant overlap in populations, I have to believe one factor is a shortage of volunteers and officials vs. a reluctance to make people choose.

From the October 2025 competition committee minutes:
Summer Meet Review – Long Course Age Group Champs went well.
▪ It was noted that with no competition on Saturday, travel logistics was
more difficult for some swimmers.
▪ Swimming wise it was a good meet.
▪ Chris Schlegel will be meeting with the Age Group Committee to
discuss issues and continue planning. At this time, the plan for the
summer 2026 is to run the LC Age Group meet the same way to see if
this past year was a one off or if the issues persist.

MCSL (summer league) would lose some of its top swimmers from its Divisionals if JOs had Saturday morning AG sessions, and JOs would lose good times from said tired swimmers if it had Saturday afternoon/evening AG sessions after MCSL Divisionals. Yes, there are absolutely lots of other summer swim leagues in the PVS orbit, but I agree that the availability of volunteers and staff (and indeed coaches: many club coaches also coach summer league) might play a role in the JO schedule planning. I'm not part of it, just thinking out loud.

Great point about coaches too.

Given that next year’s schedule shows the meet over 4 days rather than 5, the complaints about the schedule were heard. For years Saturday afternoon was distance so that people wouldn’t have the am conflict, I would imagine they are returning to that.

Couldn’t they make the cut times faster so there are less swimmers so there are fewer days? LC AGC is 4 full days of prelims finals, with max of six individual events. Max events at NCSA AGC is 10 individual events over 4 full days. Too many swimmers in LC AGC.

NCSA AG champs is SC and is run on 2 courses simultaneously, you can’t do that at UMD for LC champs. There are also 10 and unders at LC AG champs, which there generally aren’t at NCSA AG champs unless they are fast enough to make the 11 year old cuts.

They did make many cuts faster. They still want to give local athletes an opportunity to attend a Championship meet, even if the cut times are below NCSA and Zones. You don't build the sport by making it less attainable to achieve a Championship meet experience. You want those BBs and As motivated for growth, with NCSA+ times as a goal.

The cut times for odd age NCSA is faster than some of the LC JO cuts.
