GDS Senior Prank

This is kind of what makes it mean spirited. What makes it funny to some, in part, is an underlying mockery of parents and the suggestion of general contempt for the counselors.

Exactly. Just generally, I don't like pranks whose main goal is to make fun of someone's honest reaction (or to imply that someone else is disliked). It's mean-spirited. This prank also created a bunch of work for the college counselors & whichever staff members had to deal with the avalanche of emails and follow-up. If you're making a mess that someone else has to clean up, it's not funny.

I am a GDS parent, and this was pretty much my emotional progression, all in the space of about an hour.

That said, I didn’t expect the senior prank to be directed at parents like this. I always thought such pranks are aimed at administrators, faculty, or other students. As a parent of a junior who hasn’t hired an outside counselor, I was googling college counseling services. Luckily I hadn’t actually phoned any before the prank was revealed. So no harm, no foul. But it didn’t make me laugh.

Unpopular opinion: Pranks are dumb.

My son is a junior caught in the middle of the college process and this chaos has completely derailed his studies. I spent the morning frantically reaching out to the school, believing my son’s college plans were now in jeopardy, and I had to miss several vital meetings with my working group to fix this mess. My son is now in an environment of anarchy and vandalism, right when he should be hard at work preparing for the SAT. I find it frankly disgusting on the part of the senior class, who must know from experience how difficult this time of the year is. Am I really the only one who wants to see some consequences enforced? Maybe not expulsion, but perhaps a suspension and some restrictions on the usual end-of-year senior festivities. I think cancelling their prom would be more than fair.

The school sent an email 45 minutes later saying it was a prank.

Pretty good prank but if you want the useless opinion of someone who was involved in multiple high school and college pranks, I would give this one a B rating

That’s a troll. Not a parent.

It was a great prank! Kudos to the senior class.

I went into absolute blame mode. Totally infuriated and then laughed for 40 seconds when I found out it was a prank. Best part of my day!

Why would this email make someone panic?

This is confusing-it’s just not a funny prank. The rxns remind me of people marveling at how amazingly adorable it is their four year old calls their teeth “toofies.”

😂 This must be prank #2 - only it’s a post instead of email 😆
