Best hidden gem for a long weekend in the summer

22:02 poster again, Salisbury zoo is a hidden gem. Free. Small. Park like with lots of shade. It is perfect for a 7 year old old and can be combined with Md Assateage and several hours on the OC boardwalks or Jolly Roger’s.

?? It’s a beautiful natural beach without a bunch of ugly condos to ruin the views. Horses, shorebirds, horseshoe crabs. Lovely place.

There's so much history here. I would do this as a solo trip I think. My kids would hate the things I'm interested in the area for. And I would need so much help with the itinerary because my interests are so specific.

It’s NY hipster heaven in the summer, but here’s some fun stuff for kids: https://mommypoppins.com/new-york-city-kids/best-of-lists/35-things-to-do-with-kids-in-the-hudson-valley

Obviously, only a one day activity, but you could combine it with travel on the way to or from somewhere else. My family did a few day drive that included Luray cavern, Shenandoah park, this museum, and some other places along the way when our kids were maybe 10 and 6.

I found Staunton depressing. Very dull.

I’m the PP here. We didn’t go into Staunton and I didn’t suggest it above because I don’t know anything about it. I do think that children the ages of OP’s would enjoy the frontier museum suggested above.

Charleston and a nearby beach

If you do this, go see a River Dogs minor league baseball game.
