What happened to Boden?

Anonymous
Yes they had nice structured dresses before and now they are cheap and thin.

So much this. I was getting the majority of my online clothes from Boden circa 2017-2020. Well made and cute. Both for work, home and loungey fun stuff.

It now reads like the Gap to me. It’s horrifying ugly. The prints are so, so terrible. Kind of a combo of ugly, matronly, but trying and failing to be “fun”. Like the equivalent of wearing a sign that says “I have no confidence in my own fashion sense”. I don’t ever go to the webpage anymore. It’s been a shocking transformation.

Still wear what I have, but I expect to be 90%+ natural fibers within ten years. It an expensive process to switch over, and there are a few things I don’t want to buy in natural fibers, such as bras and swimwear.

Where do you shop?

Boden used to be my go to for swimwear but I’m returning everything I bought from them this year. I’m really disappointed.

Who wears this? When? Where?

Anyone? Everyone? There is nothing bold about this dress

It is frump mom. And looks exactly like what you’d see at target. Quality is better (I’ve actually always thought Boden quality is exceptional for the price) but the style is “I am a styleless mom who wants to be “fun fashion” but picked poorly”.

I am a little bummed to see this thread, but also wondering if those of you posting tend to wear buttoned-up, fitted Washington DC lawyer type clothing? I just bought a few dresses from Boden, thinking maybe I would keep one, but my college-age daugther told me all three looked great, were adorable, and I should keep them all. I work for a museum--so maybe it's just a different vibe, but I got so many compliments when I wore the first one to work the other day. I am not a frumpy person at all--but HATE spending money on clothes, even though I really work to look pulled together. I am petite. Now I'm worried I look ridiculous.

I wore a lot of Boden to work circa 2005. None of my dresses were "structured." I agree stuff is cheaper and thinner now, but not by a lot.

PP at 10:49. Fwiw, I'm a lawyer. Not sure how "buttoned-up" I am though?

It's basically that Anthro Somerset dress that everyone seems to have at least one of. Agree, nothing "boldly bold" about it.

It's the same as the Hobbs dressed posted by a pp. That style is frump mom. BTW, Boden in the UK is considered stylelss Mumsy clothing anyway.

And those dresses don't do anyone's figure any favors.

I am buttoned up in both personality and wardrobe.

Boden was always too cutesy for me and that is saying something as I am very Iris Apfel LOUD BRIGHT QUIRKY in my styling.

I have been happy with my Boden t shirts and cotton sweaters that I’ve bought in the last year. The quality is still good.
