Only 44 but have basically stopped drinking over the last year. Haven't had wine for more than a year. I love cocktails and will still order one when im out for dinner. But only one. I drink nothing at home.
I had a big social event recently and drank 5 drinks. I truly thought i might need to go to the hospital. I didnt get out of bed for 36 hours. That used to be a normal Tuesday for me a decade ago. |
This happened to me - I went wild at a friend's birthday party (a wine tasting) and literally spent the next day in bed wondering if I needed to get IV fluids in between vomiting. I am 45. |
Alcohol is really bad for you. I gave it up in late 30s and never looked back. Yes, you absolutely start metabolizing alcohol differently as you age. |
NP. Yes. I can barely manage it now. I used to be able to share a bottle of wine with my husband. That is unfathomable to both of us now.
I really think there is something physical that happens in your 40s where you just can’t drink any more and if you want to continue at the same level you have to override your body. I think it’s why people I know have moved from “like a night out” to “hospitalization for alcoholism” in their 40s. The body just can’t manage it. |
Yes. I’ll have a glass of wine w 2x/week, a very, very occasional cocktail for the ritual, but more than even one drink invariably comes with middle of the night wake-up, and a generally crappy feeling the next day. I don’t even enjoy feeling tipsy anymore. It used to be so much fun. Not anymore. |
