Anyone else "outgrown" drinking?

This started happening to me last year. First with red wine, then all wine, and occasionally even a beer/cider (I almost never drink hard alcohol). I cut way back, but still have a glass of wine or a beer most nights- rarely more than that.

I quit too. I get chronic migraines since 2021 and it's just not worth 2 days of misery.

Good for you?

I’m 42 and I have a couple most evenings. I should stop though. I think it’s stress.

Yup. Started to wind it down a couple of years ago. I’m 45 now.

Yup. My DH and I are both drinking very little these days because we old.

Yes. I had 3 glasses of wine in the entirety of 2024. None so far in 2025. I simply do not care to ingest the sugar or toxins, sleep like crap, feel bad the next day or two (because it somehow is 2 days now even if you only drink 2 glasses). There is zero benefit to drinking alcohol and it acts like a poison. Not interested.

It’s going to age you terribly if that motivates you at all. My mother was a heavy drinker, wine and beer only, not liquor, and she got away with it til 42. Then 42-45 hit her like an absolute train, I could not believe how rapidly she aged in that time and what she looked like at just 45.

If you are still chasing a chemical high after having kids, something is wrong with you.

I started avoiding alcohol early in my work career because of the drunks I worked with and the problems they caused. Alcoholics hate people who don't drink like they do. I worked for a two different defense contractors when I moved here and the drinking was off the chain in both. There was so much social pressure to get drunk that I avoided many events. It was not a safe environment for a young 20 yo female. It wasn't uncommon to see upper mgmt completely sh*t faced at work. Every social event involved excessive drinking and no one thought for a second about driving after. I was certain several of the guys who worked in my area were alcoholics and am amazed none of them ever got a dui. As I've gotten older, more of these people have admitted their alcoholism and apologized. In every case, they caused problems at work although several were popular and well liked. One guy, who admitted he is an alcoholic, has completely wrecked a favorite past time of mine.He has chased off most volunteers and is constantly bullying women who participate. The sexual harassment was brutal in these environments.

I grew up in a family that drank a lot of wine and the occasional digestif. We did not have a history of alcohol use disorder or other addictions. I was always mindful of the extra calories and health risks, but I imbibed regularly, even having a cocktail on Fridays after work.

Now the day-after migraines are brutal. Somewhere between one and three legal drinks (less than a restaurant pour of wine), and I will have miserable after-effects. I stopped buying cases of wine because I just can’t consume it—not even 12 bottles in a year.

I aged out I think. Mid 70s. DH stopped 5 years ago because of medication taken. I kept on but lipitor or age or both makes me feel ill after a glass.

I don't drink because I never liked it, now at 49 age, I completely avoid it.

60 yr old here - much prefer gummies now. I love a buzz and a gummy after work is great and puts me in a great mood to do dog walk/ dinner/ evening stuff then g’nite and out like a light!

Love the taste of alcohol but I guess I’m too old for it now! So glad there’s gummies.
