It had to do with focal areas, and the inevitable feeling that you are splitting up a limited pie. Some long standing minorities (like disabled peoples) felt overlooked and left out.
And right now, they are getting the worst of it. |
The pie IS limited, and previously the white boys gorged themselves to the point of debauchery while the rest of us were left to fight over the crumbs. No one is actually interested in growing the pie. With budget cuts in the public sector and the increasing demands of shareholders in the private, it’s actually impossible. If the pie grows, the billionaires get 90% before anyone else even gets a bite. |
JD Vance is so woke. He’s also changed his name twice. We should start calling him his name given at birth JAMES DONALD BOWMAN |
Poor kid from Appalachia with addict parent and some time in foster care-he absolutely 100% benefited from efforts to boost diversity! But like other people who benefited, that doesn’t mean he didn’t have good grades and isn’t capable (albeit nazi-curious with no backbone and a craven desire for power.) |
No, it’s DEI. DEI is diversity, equity and inclusion. Veteran’s preference places a value of the diversity of knowledge and skills acquired through the military. It provides equity to service members following their service. Veteran’s preference usurps purely merit based hiring. It allows veterans with fewer skills and less experience to overtake (and sometimes block) more experienced applicants during the federal hiring process. This is permitted because Congress decided it was equitable to provide (sometimes) lower skilled veterans a chances to be included in the federal workforce. The argument is that the diversity of skills acquired through military service isn’t as easily quantified as private sector service. |
A person can be both admitted to elite institutions on merit and DEI. I feel that I have won several spots this way. I used to be embarrassed about it, but I grew out of that feeling.
I received top grades, beat my classmates so many times I lost count, and I am an accomplished athlete. I am a minority to boot. So what is the point of going after JD Vance about this? Or going after Condie or Collin for that matter? Pointing out irony for a cheap chuckle? Seems like a useless exercise. |
He’s wrecking the country and costing many of us our jobs-I think a chuckle or two at his hypocrisy is just human nature. |
This chat isn’t about you. Learn to read the room. Our nation is starting to impose its morally superior views on race and equality on the world, including the Vatican, South Africa, and the Middle East. |
Hate socialist programs! Hands off my Medicare!!! |
DEI doesn’t usurp merit. It compliments it. You seem to believe that the default for a merit based selection a white man. |
Vance did well for a poor boy from a poor area (DEI) and then as a veteran (DEI.) |
The name DEI is new not the idea. Zip codes are still very much a thing. |
Director of National Intelligence has V!
Mom of six is now on the Supreme Court — She had (all?) those bazillion kids through her very own V! Her partner is the full time parent. As a mum, as an old-timey feminist, should I take a minute to rejoice at our accomplishments? Am I allowed to do that? Tell me what to think! |
Amy Coney Barrett is mother of seven children, five biological and two adopted from Haiti. Amy found time to balance her family demands and her career, becoming the most accomplished professional in her family and the United States of America.
She could not do it without the support of the father of her children. While he also graduated from a top law school, he largely chose to take care of the family while Amy pursued her career. |
Go away, bigot. |
