Statistics of kids who got into Ga tech

Tons and tons of low academic performers get in.

Mind you, that is not a bad SAT score, per se, but for STEM college it is.

Tons? Really? Hyperbole much?

I wonder if they are skeptical of all the privilege and awards and internships, so much of which is just paid for. It's so much more impressive when a kid from a public can match the stats. I think that might explain some of the seemingly incomprehensible rejections.

Same with a kid at our DMV public school…business major. That has to matter a ton.

Georgia Tech is test score mandate. For other elite test optional school, applicant will only submit score that fits at the top range. Therefore, the data is skewed. These low 1300 SAT scores at Georgia Tech are probably from applicants who are applying to business and liberal arts major.
From what I have seen, college of engineering and college of computing are full of very intelligent students. These are the students whose stats are on par with MIT admits. GT is kind of safety net that catches many of the MIT rejects.

Exactly. Georgia Tech also has big time sports. Which makes it a much more fun place to go to school. And also probably accounts for a lot of the lower test scores.

It’s not “tons,” and my bet is that most of them are 6’8” and can run an impressive 40.

That's about 1000 students a year. Thats plenty.
Don't see why you need to overly exalt the 2nd best school in Georgia, and 8th best public according to Usnews. Those scores are where it should be.

I'm not sure why you feel the need to bring it down. Where did you go to school? Where do your kids go to school? D-bag U?

It is really sad how many people here have so much angst towards schools. I really don't get it. I remain convinced that those with the most angst went to tier 4 schools (which are perfectly fine) and have never been within 500 miles of the schools they are insulting.

My DS got in last year from NOVA public- had 4.5 GPA (he did not have straight As)- highest math and science classes he could take at high school. 1500 Sat (800 math). Lots of STEM summer programs that he had to earn his way into through academic performance but also had a stem internship that parents helped him get. Also had strong non- academic extracurriculars. The school does look for a variety of types of kids. He is also in classes with several athletes (including football players) and they seem to be just as intelligent! Great school if you can get in!

I don't get it either. I was hanging out in a conference room at work when the topic of colleges came up. These two women immediately turned into two strange cats who had surprise encountered each other when they learned one went to UVA and the other VT.

For Engineering, GT is pretty close to a lottery among well qualified applicants. For various fields at GT, the statistics will vary.

I guarantee you those kids are in the 1%-24% below 1370.

BTW, Ga Tech has 20k undergrads. So, that’s 5,000 enrolled students below 1370.

This is the lie people like to keep telling…a bunch of elite schools like MIT are now test required.

For other top 20, you have on average at least 75% of enrolled students submitting test scores.

Only the UC school are outliers but they are test blind.

1540 SAT, good GPA and a number of APs, etc.

Offered pathway admission. it's basically one year anywhere, then join in the 2nd year.

I see a lot of kids with perfect or almost perfect ACT and SAT getting denied on the regular. It's now almost getting impossible to get in there out of state.
