I own a blue collar small business, and all my competitors are crowing about how great the new corporate tax rate is going to be for their business. They all own LLC's.

My DS is in his mid-20s and somehow tolerates a few MAGA friends in PA. One of them has a gf who works for FEMA and she and her MAGA bf are afraid she’s going to lose her job. We hosted a group of them last weekend during a visit to the area and from I gathered she isn’t of the same political persuasion as the bf.

The stock market is rallying. No one else sees this as economic doomsday.

And, these cuts affect DC based feds a lot more. Feds outside of DC might lose their job, but their community will remain robust. Real estate won't crater, and the job market will won't be oversaturated the way it will be in DC.

DC feds are hosed. RIP the job market, real estate market, tax base, etc.

You seem to be suggesting that people in America should vote for what's best for the people in the DC metro area? Why would someone in Illinois vote so that DC area workers are employed by the government?

Exactly. Dumb AF. The majority work outside DC and universities that get fed funding for research have to cut. Many of these are in MAGA land and confederate country. WSJ had a story.

We were going to do a $150k renovation and I told my MAGA contractor in December we had cold feet because of the tariffs. Sad!

Same. I was planning to do a 300k addition. Not happening until Trump leaves office. Things are too volatile now. I am thinking of investing the money in another country to spread the increased risk that this one crashes.

I know of a couple of maga builders, I warn people away when folks reach out to the neighborhood for advice.

Same. We did a kitchen renovation past year and one of the builders recommended to me was MAGA. Went to his website. The banner photo was him posing with an AK-47 and flag. Instant nope. Our decision was validated a few days later when I was driving my son to jazz band. He tailgated me in his contractor truck, then angrily passed on a double yellow line and cut me off. It turned out he was also dropping his son at jazz band 🙄

Ever since, I’ve been warning people off him. Why would anyone hire an angry, heavily armed man to come into their house and work on their kitchen?

You know that all the farmers are getting screwed by USAID being destroyed. Now they’re going after SNAP and WIC, which are food benefits but really they’re AG benefits to farmers as well.

There's a reason most of WIC is dairy...formula, cheese, milk. It's really just a massive dairy industry subsidy. I'm sure those farmers all voted for Kamala though.

Most government workers are not located in the DC area, and they are not all Democrats.

Feds are of course in every state but are a much smaller percentage of employment outside of DC. The exception to that is areas near major military installations, where they make up a large percentage of employed population. Also DC relies heavily on federal contracting and law firms that deal in federal investigations, providing a secondary federal market that most states do not have. So it is much different in Illinois or Ohio than in DC if feds get laid off.

The largest expenditures are in DOD, which they probably won't cut much.

I am eagerly waiting for ICE raids at dairy farms in the Midwest and vegetable farms in California, they are all big Trump voters snd they all rely on immigrant labor. They think they are untouchable. I hope they are not.

That's interesting. I've heard some small businesses are losing business, especially contractors. The looming recession will make it worse. I'm not sure what a blue-collar business is? A vending machine business might do well, but a paint store might not.
