Trump, an atheist, wants to "bring religion back"

He’s probably getting a big donation to say what he said. That’s my guess.

Then you aren't paying attention. OP's title is a quote but it's misleading. He's not talking about his own personal beliefs, he's talking about his vision for the country. Trump wants Christian Nationalism because it would give him more power.

I never realized how many demons truly walk among us until MAGA emerged. Literally makes my skin crawl.

Effectively he is. Tell me, what is is about his character or behavior that says “I’m a Christian!”?

He acts like a lot of “Christians” I know.

That…doesn’t say much.

Being a Christian doesn’t mean being a good person being a Christian means you’re hoping being a **** person. Your whole life is saved eventually by some God in the sky, who is all loving.

Quite the opposite.

Nope all you have to do is accept Jesus as your savior and you will be saved. You don’t even have to do one kind act.

That is an Evangelical Christian approach not mainstream Christianity. Also many of us do not perceive God as being some old dude in the sky and although she/he (no gender in the spirit) is omnipresent and omniscient, we have free will so our destiny is largely up to us.

Much like in many African cultures related to perceptions of cultivating personhood over a life time in relation with community and self discipline, Christians are called to cultivate wisdom, love, and the other fruits of the spirit over as along as possible. Of course there is always grace for those who can’t or don’t choose to but simply saying I believe and not changing behavior is not theologically sound.

"Faith without good works is dead" James 2:17 means simply believing in something without taking action based on that belief is essentially meaningless or inactive. True faith should manifest in positive actions and deeds.

Matthew 7:15-20
Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

Galatians 5:22-23.
"fruits of the spirit" are: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Philippians 4:5-8
Let your moderation be known unto all (wo)men. [sic] The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

“And God bless everybody. We want to come together. And the happiest — the person, the element, the everything that’s going to be happy. People of religion are going to be happy again.

And I really believe you can’t be happy without religion, without that belief. I really believe it. I just don’t see how you can be. (Applause.)

So, let’s bring religion back. Let’s bring God back into our lives.

Thank you all very much. Thank you very much. Great honor. Thank you. (Applause.)”

No, he doesn't care. He's trying to appease his voter base - see how he says "people of religion are going to be happy again." If you are happy with your religion you don't need to impose it on others.

If he believes in God, he should behave in a way fitting of that.

I think what he means when he says he says "people of religion are going to be happy again" is that they will truly "own the libs" again. That would make MAGA happy. It portends that Democrats will flock to Jesus to become born-again Christians and Republicans.

Not to mention that Christian Nationalism is an oxymoron. There is nothing less Christina than nationalism.

The Christian right will just throw back into your face “do not judge lease the be judged” or some other kind of b$ll s$it.

This new administration has itself mixed politics and religion. It was Trump, remember, at the "National prayer" breakfast who said he wanted to bring religion back.

As soon as religion stays out of politics.

Republicans keep forcing their religious beliefs on others.

In reality they'll just quote some obscure nonsense like Vance and ordo amoris (I'm not Catholic and don't care for this.)

Unfortunately there is plenty of Intolerant "Christian" writing spanning history they can quote if they want to justify their actions

PP to whom you responded

That is highly likely since they have been led so far astray from Christ’s teachings. They are obviously exploiting religion and culture war wedge issues to divide and conquer their undemocratic and unholy agenda.

The prosperity gospel favored by many evangelical mega church leaders represents the opposite of Christ’s teachings.

I absolutely agree with atheists who want a division of church and state - to protect the integrity of both. Jesus told us to: render unto Caesar that which is Caesars (ie taxes, following laws of the land); and to render unto God that which is God’s (worship/ prayer/ loving others as yourself and God with all your heart). This separation of church and state is needed to protect religious freedoms. It should not be up to the state to decide peoples’ preferred spiritual values and faith communities (or whether they choose atheism/ agnosticism)

I just hope that the federal government and constitution can withstand the relentless, chaotic and illegal attacks on them by Musk and Trump (cynically done in the name of God and country).

May God have mercy on us all.

Trump is an atheist, all right, the bad kind. I think there are good and bad people of all religions and non-religion.
